Job Overview

The Sr. Director, ERP and Enterprise Applications oversees the operations and strategic planning of the SNDL ERP for Cultivation, Manufacturing and Retail and the extended application technology landscape; they will ensure that the enterprise applications and distinct software packages align with the business objectives and technology strategy. This person will plan, coordinate, and direct all activities related to developing and managing internal applications that enhance business operations and allow us to operate and scale the business. The Sr. Director of ERP and Enterprise Applications will work closely with decision-makers to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support optimal technology solutions for our growing business. This individual is also responsible for supporting and assisting in the integration of existing and new applications, including M&A planning and integration.

Scope of Role

  • Conduct regular compliance checks and test operating systems.
  • Develop, lead, and direct ERP and enterprise application operations and strategic planning and execution. This includes capturing business requirements, executing against agreed plan, managing issues/barriers/change, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources
  • Manage strategic relationships between internal IT resources, business stakeholders, end users, vendors, and partner organizations
  • Assess current enterprise applications and ERP solutions (people, process, and technology) to design a future state and roadmap to achieve desired state
  • Overarching responsibility and provides guidance for best practices framework (ex. ITIL, and Life Cycle Management) for the support and sustainability of enterprise applications
  • Manage financial budgets, resources, and relationships with stakeholders and vendors
  • Lead and manage successful technology enablement implementations of IT-based, cross-functional projects, providing clarity for success measures, milestones, and transparent progress reporting, identifying, and elevating risks, resolving roadblocks with a bias for what is best for the business, and fostering joint accountability with business partners for successful outcomes
  • Negotiate and administer vendor and consultant contract and service agreements
  • Define and communicate project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to IT Leadership, business stakeholders, support staff, and end users
  • Provide leadership and evolve/grow team to support existing environment and to allow scalable growth as enterprise takes on more technology
  • Review performance of supported applications to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements. Benchmark, analyze and recommend improvements
  • Supervise recruitment, development, retention, and organization of the ERP and applications staff in accordance with budgetary objectives and personnel policies
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives
  • Provide leadership and direction with regards to enterprise technology, vendors, policy, and standards
  • Partner with leadership to proactively identify needs and resolve issues. This includes researching the background of issue(s), identifying root causes, quantifying the scope and scale of issue(s), identifying possible solutions, making recommendations, and executing the solution in accordance with desired business outcomes
  • Manage, train, and develop the technology team to inspire growth and innovative solutions
  • Actively lead M&A migrations efforts as it pertains to ERP and enterprise applications


Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong analytical skills looking broadly across the organization, with the ability to summarize large amounts of data from various inputs
  • Proven and demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, and effective management of technology projects
  • Experience transitioning technologies into IT that are currently managed by other functions
  • Working knowledge of application architecture, database and SaaS solutions required
  • Successful demonstration of building an internal team of resources, and implementing a successful support model internally or with a third party partner
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, accounting/finance coursework, computer engineering, or related field of study, or 7+ years of relevant experience
  • A strong business acumen and ability to maintain budgetary control
  • High curiosity – proactively seeking to learn more and ‘connect the dots’ for better solutions
  • Affinity toward technology as a business growth enabler
  • Rigorous attention to detail and highly organized, but able to operate with ease (from strategy to execution)
  • Deep empathy for customer experience – always analyzing and assessing from the customers’ viewpoint
  • Prior experience with Business Applications such as Workday would be preferred.
  • Prior experience implementing/supporting large scale ERP platforms, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Business Central
  • Collaborative, while firm on goals and driving the extended team toward actions (and deadlines) to achieve them
  • Experience working for public company and implementing/adhering to SOX controls
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, change management and problem-solving skills combined with demonstrated team management capabilities
  • 7+ years of leadership experience with teams (10+)
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
