The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and delivering programs and initiatives related to the creative industries sector, film and tourism, on behalf of the Corporation. This includes marketing and promoting activities related to attracting film productions and visitors to the City. The incumbent will be responsible for the review and processing of film permits, and responding and resolving public enquiries related to filming and Tourism. Through effective project management, the incumbent will also be responsible for creating and executing marketing and advertising plans to promote the City’s current tourism assets and attract potential tourists to the City.
Successful applicants will possess the following:
- Five years’ progressively responsible work experience in an economic development or tourism environment with comparable responsibilities, to include three years’ experience in marketing, communications or public relations.
- Must have a personal vehicle for use in the performance of duties and possess a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence. Must provide consent to conduct regular driver’s abstracts through the Ministry of Transportation. A clean driving record is preferred.
- Professional Designation in Economic Development from either the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) or the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in the creation, review and/or execution of legal agreements related to City leases, permits, and insurance requirements: experience in contract negotiations.
- Must be prepared to undergo a Criminal Reference Check as a condition of employment.
- Post-Secondary school degree in Business/Public Administration, communications, tourism, or Economic Development and Innovation; or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven experience in developing messages for marketing purposes; knowledge of the City’s Corporate Writing Style and Branding Guidelines an asset.
- Demonstrable knowledge of marketing, communication and public relations principles/practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers and Windows based software such as Microsoft Office.
- Ability to preserve confidential information, and recognize and identify politically sensitive issues and bring matters of priority to the attention of the Director.
- Proven experience in the production of video, print and online materials for marketing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, elected officials, all levels of government and agencies, members of the business development community, and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of the client.
- Demonstrable knowledge of presentation techniques, methods and practices.
- Well-developed interpersonal, communication (written and oral), leadership, problem solving, and customer service skills.
Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package, pension plan, and an annual salary range starting at $95,463.41 (based on a 35 hour work week).
