What You Will Be Doing

Translations.com Montreal is currently looking for Linguists with different levels of expertise (mid-level or senior) in the Retail industry for English into French-Canadian work. You will be responsible for translating and proofreading documents pertaining to a variety of clients or to a specific VIP client that caters to various brands. Your particular expertise will also allow you do similar linguistic work on projects for a variety of creative services (e.g. transcreation, copy adaptation, inclusive adaptation, blind editing, etc.) supported by the TransPerfect Linguist Certification (TLC) program. Translations.com offers the possibility to work in hybrid mode from the office located in downtown Montreal or to work remotely based on location.


Description:

  • Make recommendations to your manager on ways to improve any processes as part of Translations.com Montreal’s commitment to continual improvement.
  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely fashion, in support of your work and of the company’s KPIs.
  • Maintain and use translation memories and glossaries.
  • Create translations that are tailored for the French Canadian market using idiomatic expressions.
  • Occasionally represent the Linguistic Department by taking part in client-facing calls to gain a better understanding of client preferences, update style guides, glossaries, instructions and reference material and address issues as they arise.
  • Be a brand owner by becoming an extension of a client’s brand within Translations.com and by maintaining brand consistency across multiple projects.
  • Be occasionally involved in providing feedback to and training for new team members and vendors.
  • Engage in developing creative content by using various translation adaptation techniques.
  • Review packaging or shipping labels directly on client-owned platforms using client’s specifications to present feedback. Communicate directly with clients to ask questions or respond to linguistic queries.
  • Juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keep Project Managers informed of project progress and meet client and internal deadlines.
  • Translate and/or proofread high visibility content in the Retail sector: product descriptions, product marketing campaigns, consumer information, shipping and packaging labels, retail assembly instructions, displays and posters, regulatory procedures and compliance, ingredient lists, nutritional values.


Who We Are Looking For

  • Strong ability to stay organized and focused on tasks.
  • Ability to support multiple projects and manage shifting priorities while keeping accurate track-record of time allotted to each.
  • Ability to develop creative translations for taglines and high visibility texts that may not normally translate well into another language.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in all situations, especially under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) communication skills and cultural knowledge of source and target languages (English and French for Canada).
  • Positive attitude in the face of change, client-centered mindset and pro-active approach to problem avoidance and resolution.
  • Acute attention to detail, spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and being comfortable working with various technologies and interfaces.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Solid experience with MS Office, Adobe software (i.e. PDF mark-ups), and CAT tools; experience with other document sharing platforms is considered an asset.
  • Years of experience: mid-level (2-4); senior (5+).
  • Experience translating and proofreading documents from the Retail industry.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, Translation Certificate, or their equivalent.
  • Native fluency in Canadian French and near-native fluency in English.

What to expect:

  • Month 6: Training and certification in creative services.
  • Month 2: Complete the brand translator graduation while demonstrating clear understanding of the brands assigned. Receive live job assignments as brand proofreader.
  • Month 1: Complete trainings on Translations.com translation software and other applicable company platforms. Learn about Retail clients and receive live job assignments as brand translator.
  • Month 3: Complete the brand proofreader graduation and be able to work independently with all files applicable to the revision phases. Receive training on platforms for different Retail clients and begin owning direct communication with client requesters.
