We are currently looking for a Retail Development Manager at our Corporate Offices in Ajax, ON

The Retail Development Manager is primarily a Dealer-facing role that facilitates Network transformation by providing direction, resolution and completion of facility projects for Volkswagen Canada. The acceleration of facility expansions to address critical sales and service capacity throughout our network is the primary requirement of this role. The role is also responsible for the maintenance and management of dealer facility programs such as Electric Vehicle readiness, new signage and New Brand Design updates. The position has the ability to influence and support partners in facility investments, using sound judgement in approving facility designs, variances and specific market customization, and lead our Dealers physical investment in the Volkswagen brand.

**This is a flex hybrid model, requiring 2 days in the Ajax office**

Primary Responsibilities:

Day to Day Facility Project Steering, including:

  • Regular Dealer interactions regarding individual projects (email, telephone, in person)
  • Project compliance and internal stakeholder review lead – start to finish
  • Management and prioritization of Weis team
  • In-Active project review & strategy building for enrollment

WF Programme Steering, including:

  • Budget & administration
  • Strategic integration of new programme elements, supplier alignment, etc
  • Internal reporting, milestone tracking, etc
  • Dealer communications pertaining to programme details (materials, suppliers, incentives, etc)

Internal Governance:

  • LOI support for facility-related matters
  • Supports Facility relocation proposal and approval preparation & delivery, when requested

Buy-Sell Governance Support

  • Track/monitor data requests and dealer documentation
  • Supports proposal Validation & Candidate Review including LOI/LOC Preparation & Deployment

New Dealer – Onboarding/ Launch Process

  • Support the Onboarding and Launch process for all new dealership openings and buy/sell dealership ownership changes

MEB Dealer Readiness

  • Dealer project management leading to launch
  • Supplier/Vendor sourcing and execution
  • Implement standards as it pertains to:
  • Dealer communication strategy
  • Support with potential financial support models
  • Standard development & support with operating standards

Signage Transition Plan

  • Dealer and vendor contractual obligation preparations
  • Sign sourcing, supply, and inventory control
  • Support financial incentive model development, and manage deployment of funding
  • New business model development and execution, including:
  • Oversee (with vendor) project management of all enrollments

Dealership Audit Program

  • Manage the ongoing dealer audit process for MEB readiness and Operating Standard compliance, including in-dealership process and facility requirements
  • Maintain the Weis (or equivalent) Dealer Assessment (audit) tool

Dealership Digitalization Strategy:

  • Support in-dealership Digital Display programs, Car-Net integration, IT infrastructure, Dealer Management System policy, and any future digital infrastructure requirements

Sustainability at Retail:

  • Assist in achieving the GHG reductions mandated by VWAG for the entire Network
  • Support conducting the annual dealership sustainability survey and providing data to VW AG


Qualifications - External

  • Strong knowledge of Facility construction and design
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Commerce and/or Project Management, or relevant equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of automotive Dealership operations is an asset
  • 5+ years of automotive or retail industry experience
  • Negotiation skills and ability to build relationships
  • Bilingualism is an asset (French/English) is an asset
  • Knowledge of Retail Industry
  • Strong presentation skills
  • 2+ years oversight/management of projects
  • Experience managing mid to large scale projects (construction)
