ABOUT THE ROLE

The Research Program Officer will be responsible for supporting the operations of the Parkinson Canada research program. This role will assist in the development of research communications to highlight breaking news stories and the impacts of the Parkinson Canada research program in advancing our understanding and treatment of Parkinson’s. The Research Program Officer will assist in the evaluation and expansion of the funding competition.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Additional duties as required to support the successful operations of the research department.
  • Assist in creating research-related communications translating complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging content for a general audience.
  • Monitor media for breaking news related to Parkinson’s.
  • Identify possible impact stories and assist in drafting impact presentations and reports and maintaining the research funding outcomes document.
  • Conduct environmental scans on research funding models across the non-profit sector.
  • Review final reports, identifying and mining relevant data such as leveraged funds, successes, and discoveries.


WHAT IS NEEDED TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE

  • Ability to work independently in a work-from-home environment.
  • University degree (or near completion) with a background in biology or neuroscience preferred.
  • Analytical and resourceful person who demonstrates strong attention to detail in preparing documents and gathering information.
  • Excellent scientific communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate scientific concepts in an accessible manner
  • Experience in a research environment and/or in the charitable health care sector an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
