Job Summary
OVCARE is a world leading, dynamic and innovative research program that brings together diverse talent to advance gynecologic cancer research and improve health outcomes for patients. We are seeking a research assistant to join our gynecologic tissue bank and clinical informatics team. You will be working together with our dynamic team to collect, edit, process and coordinate research data from participants, and support the lab teams on core initiatives. Organizational Status
OVCARE’s Gynecologic Tissue Bank and Clinical Informatics and Outcomes Unit is located at BC Cancer and the VGH Research Pavilion in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The candidate will work under the direction, guidance and supervision of Dr. Jessica McAlpine, Director of the Gynecologic Tissue Bank, and as part of a cohesive team at both these units.
Work Performed

• Assisting with clinical data extraction, editing and processing
• Reviewing patient records
• Creating and maintaining organization systems to support data collection and workflow
• Assisting with the consenting of participants to studies and responding to inquiries from research participants
• Ensuring timely notification of Director and team of issues and problems
• Assisting with database maintenance, data entry and data analysis
• Perform other related duties as required
• Supporting and collaborating with other team members to meet project deliverables and timelines
• Communicating with team members and partners
• Ensuring team compliance with ethics and safety policies, standards and regulations
• Conducting reviews of publications
• Participating in preparation of manuscripts and presentations
• Assisting in the editing and maintenance of protocols
• Ensuring the project files are appropriately set up and maintained
• Monitoring workflow and data collection to ensure high quality data

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Director of the Gynecologic Tissue Bank will monitor the work of the Research Assistant. Errors or incorrect decisions could seriously compromise the quality of the research and result in delays in completing projects. Additionally, serious compromises to the quality of the research will jeopardize future funding opportunities. Failure to clearly represent and communicate the work of the research team could result in severed relationships with the funding agency and collaborators. The work of the Research Coordinator must be completed at a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
Supervision Received
The Research Assistant position will work under the broad directives of the Director and research team. It is imperative that the Research Assistant work collaboratively and with minimal supervision. They will act independently in performing defined duties from broad objectives and will alert the Director to any unusual situations, and problems as they arise or are anticipated.

The Research Assistant may be responsible for ensuring the accurate work of students.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
University degree preferred. Knowledge of research environment an asset. Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to effectively use MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Adobe, Skype, SPSS and REDCap at an intermediate level.
• Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
