About Alchemy

Alchemy is a nanotechnology company building solutions for the automotive and defence industries. We are transforming legacy industries by vertically integrating our coatings innovations into category leading ready-to-use solutions. Our two main solutions are:

  • ExoShield windshield protection films for the automotive industry
  • Crypsis Class infrared camouflage coatings for the defence industry

We are at the growth-stage of our journey and are focused on sustainable top-line growth across both our automotive and defence business units. Alchemy is backed by leading investors and incubators in Canada, USA, France, and China such as Y-Combinator, Stanford-StartX, Creative Destructive Lab, and more.

Our team is a diverse, tight knit group of engineers, scientists, and business professionals that likes to spend time together in and out of the office, whether that is weekly badminton nights or team lunches. We are a team passionate about cars, cool technology, and working together to dominate the market segments we operate in.

Responsibilities

As a QA lab technician, you will be working with the engineering teams (R&D and Manufacturing) to:
  • Maintain lab productivity by ensuring:
  • Perform QA and durability testing in lab for each stage of ExoShield production runs
  • Laboratory supplies are stocked and inventoried
  • Assist in the verification stage of new formulations for improved performance or new properties (hydrophobicity, oleophobicity, UV durability, abrasion resistance, anti-frost, anti-fog, etc.)
  • Equipment is calibrated and kept up to date on a regular maintenance schedule
  • Safety documents are up to date and safety procedures are followed
  • Troubleshoot off standard products for determination of process, testing, or equipment related causes
  • Manage testing, production, and inventory documents
  • Assist in logistics and planning of ExoShield manufacturing process and supply chain management
  • Conduct final inspections of the completed product prior to sales release

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will also be responsible for participating in health and safety discussions.

Requirements

Alchemy is an early-stage startup – this means you will have the opportunity to decide how much impact you have. We are looking for someone who cares deeply about Alchemy’s mission and is as excited about working at a fast-paced technology start-up as we are. This role is part of the core engineering team and will provide you with opportunities to contribute to critical product lines and projects.

Alchemy is a rapidly growing startup with rapid iteration cycles and ambitious delivery deadlines. In order to succeed in this role it would be beneficial to have relevant experience in the following:

  • Wet and physical chemistry lab procedures
  • ASTM, ISO, ECE, or ANSI testing standards
  • Operating and maintaining testing equipment and hardware
  • WHMIS and relevant safety procedures
  • Supply and inventory management

While prior experience in relevant fields is beneficial, it is not strictly necessary. Successful candidates should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s or College degree in Chemistry or Materials Engineering
  • 1-5 years of experience in a lab setting
  • Proactive/self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently and manage priorities/time under a dynamic high pressure environment
  • Ready and willing to contribute in whatever manner possible
  • Diligent and detail oriented with good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to adapt in a rapidly changing environment with frequent shortage of time, resources, and data

Benefits

Alchemy is a fast-growing scale-up carving its own path in a rapidly expanding industry. This means you'll have the opportunity to learn the inner workings of a rapidly expanding company in a fast-paced environment.

This role offers a wide range of tangible and intangible benefits:

  • Make a meaningful impact on the success of all projects by contributing to critical decisions and having your ideas heard
  • Competitive health benefits plan (available to Canadian residents and work-permit holders)
  • Get up to 5-weeks of time off with our vacation, monthly personal days-off, and holiday shutdown policies
  • Accelerate your technical, professional, and personal development in real-time by growing into our resident expert on all things product engineering
  • Work with a highly talented, energetic, and tight knit team
