The My Sisters’ Place drop-in program fosters a vibrant community of women who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness, promoting a welcoming and non-judgmental culture and providing a reprieve from the stigma women so often feel in other community settings. Our team supports women with anything they might need - from a hot meal to tampons, from access to showers and laundry facilities to harm reduction kits and from on-site mental health and addictions groups to connections with broader community supports.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be delivered and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

• When you'll work - Relief shifts will include days, afternoons, weekends, and statutory holidays. Relief staff have flexibility to accept shifts that suit their schedules up to a maximum of 44 hours per week, but will commit to accepting a minimum of four shifts per month.
• PSLRTA Notice - This posting characterizes this position as currently non-union. However, please be aware that at the organization on September 29, 2022, a vote was held as a result of an application by the Organization under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act. The result was that employees voted to award OPSEU bargaining rights for all employees. Until such time as a new collective agreement is finalized, current terms and conditions of employment and existing, applicable collective agreements, if any, will remain in force and effect.
• What you'll be making - $19.13 per hour

HOW YOU'LL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

• Communicate effectively with diverse clientele
• Assist in the day-to-day operations of a busy lunch program for 60-70 women
• Assist with providing nutritious morning snack & coffee
• Receive donations from the public on behalf of the organization, that are delivered to the My Sisters’ Place site
• Ensure kitchen is cleaned (in accordance with health unit regulations) bathrooms, showers are cleaned, floors are mopped and other rooms are tidy
• Assists with implementing weekly and monthly meal plans for meal program
• Assist with the coordination of showers, laundry, and day bed service for clients
• Assist with distribution of food donations
• Prepare and serve meals
• Assist with weekly grocery shopping and meal preparation services for clients

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

We require the following qualifications:

• Have excellent organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrated ability to work within a kitchen environment
• Safe Food Handling course
• Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide

We prefer the following qualifications:

• 1 years’ experience in not-for profit agencies
• Knowledge of mental illness, addiction, and co-occurring complex issues
• Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada
