As a key member of the Perioperative team, the successful incumbent provides direct care to patients within the framework of the Registered Nurse. The Post-Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) RN will work in collaboration and interact with all members of the Perioperative multidisciplinary team and other personnel. The PACU RN provides continuous critical assessment, care, and treatment for post-operative/post-anesthesia patients who are emerging from general anesthesia or from spinal, regional, or local sedation anesthesia.


This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. This position works all shifts including days, evenings, nights (on-call), weekends and statutory holidays. The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. Other duties as per job fact sheet.


  • Internship position available to eligible internal candidates only.


This position will be temporary full-time for a three (3) month period.


Posted hours do not constitute a guarantee that shifts will not be subject to change.


Skills and Qualifications


  • Certificate from a recognized community college in post anesthetic recovery room care required.
  • Current paediatric experience is required.
  • Basic arrhythmia interpretation required.
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in good standing required
  • Ability to work in a self-directed work environment with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Current basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate and ACLS required
  • Ability to provide care to surgical patients required.
  • Current critical care experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Diploma or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required
  • Demonstrate evidence of clinical reasoning, problem solving and expanded clinical leadership.
  • Ability to care for arterial, CVP and epidural lines required.
  • CMH certified to initiate intravenous lines and administer intravenous medications required.
