Job Description

We are excited to announce a unique opportunity for a Recruiter & Human Resources Generalist who excels in unlocking potential and cultivating exceptional talent. We are looking for a Recruiter & Human Resources Generalist, who will provide the following functions:

• Provide full-cycle recruitment by:

-creating and posting jobs;

-sourcing and screening applicants;

-scheduling and conducting interviews;

-negotiating and presenting the Employment Agreements to candidates;

-provide critical feedback reports on candidates and skill sets against job requirements.

• Coordinate pre-employment screening to ensure hiring the highest-level candidates possible;

• Develop technical screening in collaboration with hiring managers;

• Manage recruitment files for all candidates;

• Maintain constant communication and provide feedback to all candidates;

• Foster a network of partners in the local community to create a strong and diverse pipeline of candidates (e.g. educational institutions, bridging programs);

• Day-to-day administration of policies and the implementation of selected human resources programs covering all of the following: staffing, employee relations, training and development, performance management, compensation, benefits, WSIB, Health and Safety, policy development and interpretation, metrics reporting;

• Coordinate and oversee the execution of specific recruitment related programs such as search firms, temporary placement agencies and government grant programs;

• Process bi-weekly payroll through ADP Workforce Now;

• Benefits (enrolment, changes and terminations) and leaves administration;

• Maintain up-to-date records regarding GVA Lighting’s employees, new hires, turnover etc.;

• Onboarding of new employees, conducting New Hire Orientation and exit interviews;

• Responds to employee inquires regarding policy and procedure, benefits, performance management. Ensures compliance with internal controls and code of conduct requirements;

• Prepare employee notices, letters, memorandums, and other documents as required;

• Coach managers in performance management, recruitment and employee relations;

• Assists managers/supervisors in dealing with employee issues including investigations and providing advice in managing the progressive disciplinary procedure;

• Facilitate and/or coordinate employee development training to meet immediate and future needs;

• Reviews and makes recommendations to Health and Safety policies and procedures;

• Involvement in Joint Health and Safety Committee Meetings;

• Manages WSIB cases and Return to Work process;

• Ensures all mandatory training for new hires is completed (AODA, H&S, WHMIS etc.). Ensures annual training/retraining is completed for all staff when required by legislation;

• Maintain current knowledge of all related employment legislations (i.e. Human Rights Act, Employment Standards, Employment Equity, and Occupational Health & Safety Act);

• Responsible for Social Committee.


What would make you a great candidate:

• 2+ plus years of experience in an HRBP/ HR generalist capacity;

• Experience managing full recruitment cycle for a variety of roles (a must);

• Experience and comfortable working in the engineering and manufacturing sector with a diversity of talent and teams including hourly employees;

• Strong relationship management, influence, and coaching skills, with proven the ability to build trust across a diverse employee base;

• Applied knowledge of Canadian (Ontario) labor legislation as well as a strong foundational knowledge of global HR practices and solutions;

• Strong written and verbal communication skills;

• Advanced creativity and critical-thinking skills leading to advanced decision making capability;

• Able to deal with ambiguity, amongst multiple projects and competing priorities, tenacious, curious and a solution-oriented team player;

• Ability to successfully lead a team and a department;

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education/experience in HR or Psychology (an asset);

• CHRL/CHRP designation, MBA and/or business experience (an asset).
