Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY : The Quality Control and HSE Resource works with the site to drive the safety and quality culture throughout the region. The position requires a strong individual that can drive results with and through others while maintaining consistency and neutrality within the process. This position serves as a resource for all health and safety and quality-related functions within the sites and assists in the coaching, mentoring, and implementation of the HS&E and quality programs.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :


  • Responsible for assisting in identifying potential health, safety, and environmental hazards, and work with the Regional HSE resource on training or process improvement required to reduce the hazard.
  • Work with the Regional resource to ensure all HSE and Sun Gro training are completed.
  • Support and assist in implementing corporate safety action plans, and business plans.
  • Assist management with root cause analysis (RCA) investigation.
  • Train employees in performing and other receiving, in-process and finished product testing as required.
  • Work with site leadership to ensure all site policies are in place and adhered to.
  • Assist with the development of training and education programs for staff around HSE.
  • Work with operations employees to complete raw materials, in-process and finished product testing per SQS manual.
  • Understand and accurately follow the SQS program and its requirements.
  • Understand and follow the appropriate protocols when materials fail to meet expected parameters.
  • “Lead” the Safety Kick-Off and drive consistency throughout the site.
  • Assist in monitoring the IMS system entries input by the location, and work with other IMS Operators in managing and escalating incident submissions.
  • Be the resource for all the HS&E and quality throughout the site.
  • Participate in Site Safety meetings to keep informed of all site operating functions and priorities.
  • Work with Regional Quality Tech to ensure proper quality specifications are maintained and escalate any quality issues that do not fall within proper specifications.
  • Assist Grower Specialist with claims resolution.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :


  • Ability to identify potential safety hazards and make recommendations to rectify the situation.
  • Ability to conduct and teach other RCA’s, Behavioral Auditing, and Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Ability to Establish Plans – set clear, measurable goals, anticipate roadblocks, adjust for problems, and accurately assess the length and difficulty of tasks.
  • Challenges status quo to eliminate non-value-added work and continuously improve processes.
  • Ability to interact with production employees, supervisors, and governing authorities.
  • Proactively, and positively affect change in the safety across the western region Strong customer focus - includes the ability to balance the needs of the customer with the needs of the business as well as fostering a strong customer focus mindset.
  • Computer skills a must, specific proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet, and email.
  • Understanding safety and environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Strong execution skills – monitors progress to ensure achievement of goals and coordinates with other workgroups.
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and standards to ensure compliance.
  • Organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Change Champion – able to communicate changes, remove obstacles, and understand who needs to be involved in driving changes.
  • Strong Fact-Based Decision-Making skills – supports decisions with data and uses data to solve problems.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :


  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Safety/operations experience in a manufacturing/production facility.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to travel over various terrains and to different locations within the Western Region.
  • Occasional climbing, stooping, bending.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of walking, sitting, standing, and lifting.
