Job Description

Located in the picturesque town of St. Jacobs, Heidelberg Foods Ltd. specializes in premium quality, great tasting, shelf stable meat products and meat snacks. We operate out of a state-of-the-art BRC Global Standard certified, federally registered, CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) regulated meat processing facility with additional facilities available in the Kitchener/Waterloo region to support expansion in Canada and internationally. All products are naturally wood smoked and made from the finest quality meats and spices, with no fillers. Our Noah Martin Country Store brand and private label customers' brands are enjoyed nationally and can be found at many chain grocery stores, delicatessens and independents.


YOUR JOB:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the candidate will partner with department leaders and outsider suppliers to ensure Heidelberg Foods maintains cost effective inventories of its raw materials, finished goods and supplies. Your talent for finding value without sacrificing quality, will ensure the company continues to make the highest quality products while keeping costs low for its customers. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a manufacturing environment, and will bring a combination of strategic vision, technical depth, and leadership to the position.


Duties

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure understanding of reporting requirements in order to translate stakeholder requirements into reporting deliverables.
  • Monitor production orders for accuracy and timely reporting.
  • Work with key personnel to effectively implement process improvements to operational procedures in an effort to proactively optimize overall location and item level accuracy and maintain the highest possible productivity levels.
  • Participate in determining the corrective actions, including inventory adjustments for cycle count discrepancies on items at the location level as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all inventory adjustments, including tankage.
  • Analyze data for reasonableness as part of report generation that supports a reporting dashboard and tracking of production performance metrics
  • Monitor inventory transfers between plant and warehouse for accuracy.
  • Prepare production schedules and keep them up to date.
  • Prepare and maintain purchasing files, reports and price lists.
  • Review raw materials inventory leger to identify requirements according to standard algorithms.
  • Participate in development, implementation and monitoring of item setup controls to ensure accurate setup of new raw materials and finished goods.
  • Help to perform thorough research and document inventory discrepancies using all available resources to identify root causes and supply possible solutions.
  • Expedite and follow up with suppliers to schedule deliveries, resolve material, value discrepancy, and outstanding and overdue delivery of orders, warranty claims and damage, and return of materials.
  • Provide support for the cycle count program in a perpetual inventory environment.
  • Track actual production results against the schedule on a daily basis, research and report variances (with full explanations) to management.
  • Maintain production tracking data files for analysis, ensuring tracking files are kept up to date at all times.
  • Review results and help to identify necessary recounts and processes to be monitored.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure data being collected from the production floor is complete and reasonable, highlighting anomalies for further investigation.
  • Participate in development, implementation, and monitoring of all key functions related to raw material and finished goods inventory transactions to assure that they are accurate and timely.
  • Ensure that lot tracking capability is sustained and readily available and participate in recalls and mock-recall exercises.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.
  • Ensure that the units of measure are properly specified in the database in relation to how the item is purchased, manufactured and/or sold.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to determine supply needs, quality, and delivery requirements.
  • Create and deliver standard reports as required and ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Source price quotations, prepare purchase orders, and place orders with vendors.


Skills

  • Knowledge of supply chain, production and processing, customer and personal service, relevant tools and technology, applicable regulations and standards, administration and management, English language, other languages as required, and mathematics.
  • Work independently and is comfortable making decisions within company prescribed parameters.
  • Active listening and learning skill, reading comprehension, coordination, speaking, judgment and decision making, time management, writing, service orientation, and mathematics.
  • Adhere to the company’s code of ethical conduct.

  • Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word, Access, SQL and/or other database/ERP systems.


Education

  • College diploma or University degree in a mathematical, accounting, purchasing or scientific area of study


Experience

  • At least two years of purchasing, distribution, production, warehouse and inventory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the meat industry is preferred.


Physical Demands And Working Environment

  • Handling of boxes weighing up to 30 kg is sometimes required to carry out counts or validate labels.
  • While most of the employee's regular work will be in-office, the employee is regularly required to also work in a food processing plant and cold storage warehouse over the course of the same day. Both the food processing plant and the warehouse are maintained at temperatures below 4 degrees Celsius. Warehouse freezers operate at -18 degrees Celsius.
