This position will work 0.60FTE (22.5 hours/week).

Project Summary:
The primary duty of this position is to provide support for the BC Child Health and Health Care History Project, with the final product being an e-book that describes major innovations and changes in children's health care in BC between the years of 1995-2020. The book will be comprised of chapters by multiple authors involved in child health care during this period, as well as video clips and written contributions by medical and research personnel, former patients, and families. The role involves exercising a high degree of collaboration with various stakeholders to execute project tasks and deliverables, as well as the ability to work independently within a given set of work parameters.
Organizational Status
This position works within the Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and involves a high degree of collaboration with partner organization. The candidate will have experience in the field of child health and/or health care with strong organizational and collaborative skills.
Work Performed
  • Monitor and collect consent forms.
  • Enter chapter text, data, and links into Pressbooks.
  • Organize research data into categories, keeping track of missing information.
  • Lightly edit video clips (no VFX needed) using iMovie, Premiere Pro, or similar and upload to video hosting platform.
  • Support multiple and varied aspects of the Child Health and Health Care History Project
  • Work with chapter authors to recruit participants, ensuring ethics protocols are followed.
  • Work with chapter authors, support personnel, faculty, and staff on matters, including but not limited to, ensuring ethics protocols are followed, recruiting project participants, and assisting chapter authors with questions relating to chapter content, formatting, and organization.
  • Arrange and participate in planning meetings.
  • Other duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Project Assistant will be working with a broad range of individuals – faculty, staff, families, community members - who may have limited time available to the project. This will require sensitivity combined with firmness to achieve the goals within the timeline available. Compromise to relationships or failure to keep to timelines may compromise the overall project. Compromise of content accuracy and/or quality may lead to negative impact with key funding partners or individuals who have made contributions to the history.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with research ethics/REB requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in humanities, social or health sciences preferred.
  • Familiarity with Wordpress and/or Pressbooks, particularly editing/compiling text alongside media.
  • Experience working with institutional record systems.
  • Comfort organizing and facilitating zoom calls.
