Team Profile


The Legal and Compliance Division assists Morgan Stanley in achieving its business objectives in a manner consistent with the Firm’s core values and Global Risk Management Principles, by facilitating and overseeing the Firm’s management of legal, regulatory and franchise risk.


Professionals within Legal and Compliance provide a wide range of services to our business units. They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute. They preserve the firm's invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the firm's businesses.


The Privacy Operations team focuses on mitigating risk and operating processes that support the firm's legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations in relation to global data protection and privacy matters. While Privacy Operations is central to the successful operation of the compliance framework, the team operates in collaboration with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Technology, and first line Business Units.


Responsibilities


Position Description:


Specifically, The Privacy Risk Assessment Lead Will Be Responsible For


The Privacy Assessment Lead will report to the Head of Privacy Operations and will manage the planning and execution of privacy risk assessments globally.


  • Producing program metrics and reports for Boards and Governance Committees globally.
  • Leading the engagement with the Privacy Operations technology team (Product Owner) to maintain and improve the risk assessment platform, including providing business requirements and assisting with prioritization of changes.
  • Fostering continuous improvement of Privacy Operations services and collaborating with other privacy leaders to respond to rapidly changing privacy landscape.
  • Partnering with the data protection officers, cyber and privacy legal, privacy compliance, information management, operational risk and the firmwide data office on initiatives impacting the privacy risk assessment program.
  • Managing a team of assessors who support business unit stakeholders to document and assess personal information processing activities, including the execution of privacy impact assessments, data transfer and material change reviews.


Required Skills


  • Understanding of data ethics and AI/ML considerations
  • Experience conducting complex privacy impact assessments
  • Familiarity with global data protection and privacy regulations including GDPR, CPRA, PIPL etc.
  • Strong communication skills in English: both written and verbal
  • Understanding of cloud, data loss prevention, masking and encryption
  • Ability to manage global team and competing priorities
  • 8+ years' experience, including significant data protection and privacy experience


Desirable Skills


  • IAPP / ISACA certifications a plus
  • Experience interacting with data protection authorities or industry bodies
  • Experience with privacy tools and data analysis
  • Financial services industry experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with senior management directly
