Job Description
All basic patient equipment distributed for patient use are inventoried, tracked, and documented by the Patient Equipment Analyst. The equipment includes distributed items that need to be tracked and maintained, such as beds, wheelchairs, ceiling and floor lifts, commodes, suction regulators, plinths, exam tables, patient furniture, evacusleds, therapeutic surfaces, etc. Linkages with Engineering and Customer Support Services are maintained to support the repair and maintenance of these devices. Ongoing communication with clinical managers is required to effectively gauge the needs of the client. Specific knowledge of basic patient equipment is essential. Includes a high level of multidisciplinary and multitasking activities. Position involves inventory and tracking which includes on-site surveying of all wards and departments. The Patient Equipment Analyst may be required to work off hours. A multi-site parking pass will be required, and the individual must hold a valid driver’s license.


  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma (academic level) and minimum 2 years of college
  • Independent self-starter while working in a team environment
  • 2 years experience in a hospital setting at a coordinator level
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and communicate at a technical level
  • Able to conduct physical device counts throughout the organization
  • Strong PC/Network, Internet/Intranet skills and experience
  • Systems experience with databases, spreadsheets, statistical reports and presentation software
  • Basic knowledge of clinical practices and hospital operations including financial processes
  • Knowledge of inventory, purchasing, and costing processes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Unit Summary


The Biomedical Technology Department provides technical expertise to clinical areas for the support and maintenance of medical devices and systems. Equipment repair and preventive maintenance is a core service. Services such as


electrical inspection, device evaluation, capital planning, and user support are also mandated. Specialty servicing exists for highly sophisticated systems and general coverage is provided for basic instrumentation. Supervision, coordination,


and tracking of basic patient equipment is also mandated within the Biomedical Technology Department. Patient safety is a priority focus. Patient safety related occurrences involving equipment are channeled through the Biomedical Technology department for investigation and follow-up.


Schedule Work Hours


7.5 Hours per day, 5 days per week
