Job Description
Come work as a Operations Support Manager, Retail Food Services, with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!


Reporting to the Regional Director, Retail Food Services, the Manager is responsible and accountable for supporting all aspects of the planning, organizing and analysis of activities of food retail at our sites across Vancouver Coastal Health. You will collaborate with our managers and staff across our sites to support their work and analyse market trends, work on marketing and branding initiatives, use data to inform decision making and analyse pricing.


The Manager may be responsible for leading and supporting food service functional program plans for new builds and redevelopments (within the health authority’s template and framework approach) for their facilities/sites. Together with colleagues and the Regional Director, the Manager is responsible for building and maintaining exceptional service, and may be responsible for operational service provider relations that deliver consistent performance to commonly required standards. The Manager anticipates changes across our designated site/facilities that impact services, and plans and implements mitigating strategies. As a member of the leadership team, the incumbent is expected to participate in a respectful and productive manner, provide and accept thoughtful counsel and advice, and fully support decisions made by this team.


As a Operations Support Manager, Retail Food Services with Vancouver Coastal Health you will


  • Anticipate changes at their designated site/facilities that impact services, and plans and implements mitigating strategies.
  • Be responsible for building and maintaining exceptional customer service, and may be responsible for operational service provider relations that deliver consistent performance to commonly required standards.
  • Be responsible for leading and supporting food service functional program plans for new builds and redevelopments (within the health authority’s template and framework approach) for their facilities/sites.
  • Be expected to participate in a respectful and productive manner, provide and accept thoughtful counsel and advice, and fully support decisions made by this team.


Education & Experience


  • Current registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and/or current registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia or Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM).
  • Minimum five (5) years’ recent, related working experience in a food operations management role in a health facility or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Baccalaureate in Dietetics or Nutritional Science from an accredited university.


Knowledge & Abilities


  • Extensive experience in managing partner/service provider relationships.
  • Competently utilizes spreadsheet and word processing applications at an intermediate to advanced level and has a comprehensive knowledge of computerized purchasing systems, including e-commerce applications.
  • Broad knowledge of health facility support service operations.
  • Practical understanding of contract law and commercial terms & conditions.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and highly develops interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in managing projects to achieve results.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in contract management, and cost/benefit analysis.
  • Broad knowledge of the BC Health Care Industry environment.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills to foster a respectful and motivating environment.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
