Job Description
Responsibilities Will Include


  • Keeping current in engineering discipline, assessing new technologies and ideas, developing, evaluating, and seeking approval for new concepts to improve the efficiency and the capability of the process.
  • Preparation and submission of capital project budgets with appropriate back up data as required, and development of permits as required.
  • Providing leadership as required to the department, motivating and engaging employees while promoting team building.
  • Working with operators and peers to identify and deliver on production targets and improvement opportunities.
  • Providing back up support where required within the value stream.
  • Implementation of capital permits, projects, and engineering studies as assigned to support department and plant goals. Executes projects in compliance with company ethics, safety, and engineering standards.
  • Providing technical support to maintenance and operations groups including process studies, troubleshooting, process optimization, and maintenance of historical data to identify, monitor and control key operating parameters.
  • Ensuring that proper documentation and drawings are produced and maintained, including provision of the appropriate documentation to production, systems, and maintenance departments.
  • Coordinating with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure that maintenance, reliability and project activities are carried out to meet the requirements of the division.
  • Supporting the tracking of historical data, analyzing and monitoring key efficiencies and parameters to optimize and troubleshoot processing issues while meeting cost and production goals.
  • Leading, promotion and administration of Safety, Health, Environmental and Employment Standards, complying with corporate standards and regulatory requirements applicable to area of responsibility.
  • Monitoring process conditions and operational activities taking corrective action as needed to ensure operation of the process in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
  • Identifying, developing and initiating capital projects with an implementation date of one to two years in duration. Supervision of projects with significant monetary value, directing project contractors and consultants as necessary. Conducting process training and ensures documentation is up to date when projects are completed.
  • Oversight and leadership of the Finished Product operators and the Blending & Loading department, motivating and engaging employees while promoting team building.
  • Working closely with JHSC when conducting Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews.
  • Supporting the optimization of production in compliance with product quality specifications and food safety requirements to meet production targets.

Qualified Candidates Will Have


  • B.Sc. degree in a process related engineering discipline (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred) or equivalent in experience and education. Future attainment of P.E.O. certification desired.
  • Good general knowledge and skill using SAP and Microsoft Office. Functional experience working with Invensys (Foxboro) hardware and software is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Assertive, creative, energetic, and positive thinking.
  • Sound overall knowledge of regulatory rules, policies, procedures in the areas of GMP, Quality, Environmental Management and Health & Safety.
  • Experience and aptitude for equipment, problem solving skills and the ability to think on one's feet in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity.

  • Ideally some experience in a related industry including involvement with project management, process improvement and troubleshooting, project development and/or implementation. Should have experience involving process automation, preferably with formal training or basic knowledge of computer/PLC operations.
  • High level of integrity and sincerity.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and people management skills – In addition to providing relief coverage for the Operations Leads, the Associate Engineer must be able to demonstrate the ability to influence without authority.
