Open Pit Engineer

As a key leadership position, the Open Pit Engineer, is responsible for leading open pit studies through to operations. Accountable for all project management, management of consultants, commercial evaluation and operational input to deliver robust studies and safe execution of operational readiness. This will be achieved through effective communication with all levels of the business from top executive through operational roles. Demonstrating a hands-on agile management approach and urgency to deliver, are keys to success in this critical role that can shape the future of an iconic mining operation.
Responsibilities

• Work with Human Resources to develop organizational requirements including recruitment, management and development of key surface mining roles.
• Engage in collaborative relationships throughout the organization including but not limited to geology, metallurgy, supply chain, maintenance, and finance functions.
• Develop effective scopes of work, drive tender evaluation to award and manage contractor & consultant delivery.
• Effectively promote, deploy, and comply with all Safety & Health and Environmental policies, standards, procedures and regulations.
• Establish a culture of continuous improvement supported by effective measurement systems
• Study management of PFS and subsequent open pit studies to drive a technical sound open pit project.
• Drive the forecast and budget cycle including ownership of surface mining cost models and improvement initiatives to optimize the site outcome.
• Initiate, manage, and oversee technical and operational projects.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of Engineering standards, with a technical expertise
• Experience with a range of mining software
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• A hands on inquisitive approach to understand and share learning
• Excellent time management and project management skills
• High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives
• Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop others
• 10 years of surface mining related experience

Desirable

• Ontario P.Eng designation
• Relevant mining software expertise including (Deswik, Xeras, SAP)
• Experience delivering technical mining studies through to operational readiness
