Our Community Homes for Opportunity (CHO) program lives this ideal by providing mental health and addictions supports to CHO Homes, and encouraging residents to become active members of their community.


As a member of the CHO Team, you’ll collaborate with clients experiencing mental health or addictions concerns to help identify their needs and support them to build skills and strategies to live their lives as independently as possible. You'll provide consultation and goal-oriented activities to help clients increase their capacity, celebrate their accomplishments, and ultimately flourish.


Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:


  • What you'll be making - $30.22 - $34.94 per hour, rate based on proof of comparable, previous experience; mileage between sites reimbursed per kilometre
  • What your benefits will be - After a 90-day waiting period, will be enrolled in the extended healthcare benefits plan
  • Your pension plan – Will be enrolled in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • PSLRTA Notice - This posting characterizes this position as currently non-union. However, please be aware that the organization on September 29, 2022, a vote was held as a result of an application by the Organization under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act. The result was that employees voted to award OPSEU bargaining rights for all employees. Until such time as a new collective agreement is finalized, current terms and conditions of employment and existing, applicable collective agreements, if any, will remain in force and effect.
  • When you'll work - 70 hours over two-week period; Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm


HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:


  • Provide occupational therapy intervention to those whose ability to cope with tasks of living are threatened or impaired by emotional, psychological and social problems, and the effects of economic and cultural barriers.
  • Assist clients to perform various other activities such as cleaning, laundry, money management, home management and home safety.
  • Plan, organize and conduct occupational therapy programs in a community setting
  • Develop and participate in health promotion programs, group activities, or discussions to promote client health, facilitate social adjustment, alleviate stress, and prevent physical or mental disability.
  • Assist in recommending the selection and purchase of materials, supplies and equipment for clients and employer.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of new and current programs (e.g. life skills groups, community kitchens, program planning).
  • Organize, plan, structure and lead individual and group social and recreational activities to structure clients’ time, increase social experiences and provide opportunities to practice social skills and receive feedback and support.
  • Recommend changes in clients’ work or living environments consistent with their needs and capabilities.
  • Observe and evaluate clients’ progress, design treatment plans and recommend programs suited to individual potential and rehabilitative needs.
  • Assist in the educational development of students from related disciplines.
  • Select activities that will help individuals learn work and life-management skills within the limits of their mental and physical capabilities.
  • Provide life skills coaching to including interventions to assist clients to carry out activities such as personal hygiene and grooming tasks, nutrition education, meal planning, grocery shopping, and food preparation.
  • Other duties as required


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:


Vaccination Requirements


CMHA Thames Valley Addiction & Mental Health Services requires that all staff members be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with the rare exemption of those individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to approved exemptions (medical reasons or religious grounds as recognized in the Ontario Human Rights Code). Proof of full vaccination or approval of exemption will be required; further details will be provided to those candidates moving forward in the recruitment process.


Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements


Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. We require the following qualifications:


  • Experience working with clients with mental health or addictions concerns
  • Active registration and member in good standing of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) or has a temporary licence and working under the supervision of a registered OT with COTO. (Primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process, i.e. an original degree/diploma/certificate or official transcript; for ongoing education, an unofficial transcript will be accepted)
  • Valid driver’s licence, access to a vehicle and insurance adequate for transporting clients
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly
  • ADP certification


We prefer the following qualifications:


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written
