What We Are Looking For


The successful candidate will be working with patients that require feeding assessments, interventions, and complex feeding plans. As a member of a dynamic NICU team, utilizing a goal-oriented, client centred approach to care, you will provide comprehensive, progressive, and effective assessment, consultation, treatment, follow-up recommendations, and education for NICU staff, patients, family members and /or caregivers. The position will also support the Neonatal Follow-up clinic on a referral basis as required. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other members of the health care team, including nurses, doctors, social workers, dieticians, and pharmacists. Depending on the specific feeding issue, the Occupational therapist will recommend feeding strategies such as changing the feeding equipment or method, altering the feeding position, or providing techniques to change the flow rate of liquid. All interventions are specific to the individual needs of each baby.


The Occupational therapist participates in continuing professional development activities including the provision of clinical and educational in-services that foster ongoing learning, professionalism, interprofessional collaboration, and best practices for NICU patients. The Occupational therapist is an expert resource for staff, students, and other health care providers related to newborn developmental therapy.


What You Bring To The Role


  • Working knowledge of prematurity, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, and feeding challenges including but not limited to Down Syndrome, and Cleft Lip/Palate
  • Experience working with NICU patients requiring complex feeding plans
  • 2 years of relevant clinical experience and ability to work independently in the NICU
  • Experience in feeding and feeding assessments
  • Member of the relevant professional association recommended
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as a member of the team
  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Evidence of continuing education and professional development

  • Experience with electronic documentation preferred
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Work Schedule


The successful candidate will need to be available to work 6-8 hour shifts between the hours of 0900-1700 twice a week. Some flexibility required to work evenings when needed. Please note that shifts are subject to change based on the operational needs of the department. The successful candidate may also support Pediatrics and Clinics as needed.


Compensation


Band: OPCOM12


Hourly Rate: $36.00-$49.91
