About the role:


We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and compassionate Medical Office Assistant to join our dynamic team in Barrie, ON. This is an in-person full-time role as a Medical Office Assistant. The Medical Office Assistant will be responsible for facilitating efficient operation of our hepatology practice by performing a variety of administrative and patient-focused tasks. The ideal candidate has experience in a medical setting, familiarity with medical terminology related to gastroenterology and hepatology, and excellent interpersonal skills.


What you will be doing:


  • Appointment Scheduling: Schedule patient appointments and procedures in a timely and efficient manner. Manage cancellations and reschedules to minimize disruption in service.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to PHIPA guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Patient Interaction: Greet and assist patients in person and over the phone by scheduling appointments, answering inquiries, and providing general information about the practice and services.
  • Documentation: Ensure that all necessary forms, such as insurance information, consent forms, medical history documents, and others are completed and accurately entered into the electronic medical record.
  • Clinical Support: Assist healthcare professionals in maintaining patient records, documenting medical histories, and recording vital signs, if required. Facilitate patient preparation for procedures and examinations, if required.


About you:


  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a medical office setting, preferably in gastroenterology or hepatology.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education in medical administration or a related field is preferred.
  • A strong understanding and respect for patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with PHIPA regulations.
  • Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in using healthcare software systems for scheduling, and patient records management. Familiarity with Accuro an asset.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and medical office procedures.


Physical Requirements:


Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. May need to lift or move office supplies and equipment, up to 25 pounds.
