Job Summary

Krembil Research Institute is the research arm of the Toronto Western Hospital. Krembil is committed to advancing research in the areas of brain and spine, the eye and arthritis.

Reporting to and working closely with the Senior Manager, the Manager, Research Institute Business will oversee the operations of the Krembil Research Institute. This individual is a key point of contact for Krembil researchers, and leads the provision of administrative services to researchers through management of an institute clerical/administrative team. He/she may also contribute to budget development and execution, creation of operational and strategic plans with the Senior Manager and Institute Director

The Manager, Research Institute Business will be a facilitator and bridge between the research institute, other UHN research institutes, Foundations and other stakeholders in operational matters of the Institute. He/she supports, plans and executes institute-specific initiatives, including events, council meetings, council sub-committee meetings and contributes to action items and decision-making. Working closely with other research institute operational staff and Research Solutions & Services teams, this individual will also participate in research operational committees, including those focused on risk management, emergency preparedness and organizational strategy.

Qualifications

• Biomedical science background, experience in healthcare sector preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Exercises initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task
• At minimum, a Master’s degree in Science or recognized equivalent
• Excellent decision-making, problem solving and negotiation skills required
• Excellent organization and time management skills required
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills required
• Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
• Experience with developing and working with budgets an asset
• Excellent conflict resolution, team building and interpersonal skills required
• Client service oriented with the ability to create an inclusive environment that values diversity and encourages people to contribute their personal best
• Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
• At minimum, 5 years practical and related experience
• Compliance with confidentiality requirements
