Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Profile & Client Development, the Manager, Profile & Client Development works collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement our go-to-market strategy, expand current and new client relationships to drive revenue, and provides business development support for practices, sectors and key initiatives.
With a passion for growth and client development, the Manager will bring a successful track record in implementing strategies to win new business in a professional services or similar industry. The successful candidate understands the complexities of a matrixed environment and the relationship-based nature of how we grow our business. The Manager will be accomplished in both strategy and execution and will also have the charisma and energy necessary to inspire our lawyers with innovative business development ideas.
Responsibilities
- Draft proposals and other client-pitch materials for assigned groups; work in collaboration with the Proposals team to include key messaging in cross-practice RFPs
- Work in partnership with senior management, support the firm’s key client program by managing business development activities and preparing client reports
- Oversee and facilitate the delivery of business planning for assigned groups; execute business development plan action items and key initiatives, including researching ideas and drafting materials; track, follow up and present on group and lawyer initiatives to keep priorities moving forward
- Maintain marketing collateral related to the practice, industry, or initiative, including web content, brochures and practice group descriptions
- Maintain client lists for assigned practice and sector groups, working collaboratively with the CRM team
- Understand the key clients and experience of assigned practice and sector groups
- Lead directory submissions, prepare draft directory submissions for review and approval by accountable partners, project manage to ensure streamlined and efficient delivery
- Monitor trends in industries and identifying innovative products/services that can be promoted through strategic BD campaigns
- Provide clear direction with appropriate context when liaising with other teams, including Business Intelligence, Communications, Creative, CRM, Digital, Events, Proposals and other Business Services
- Drive business development efforts through research and analysis and develop client-focused initiatives to serve identified market needs
- Work in partnership with the Events team to ensure the successful preparation and delivery of events
- Other duties as may be required
- Create and monitor annual BD expense reports and budget
- Facilitate practice and sector group meetings
Requirements
- Demonstrate commitment to privacy and ethical conduct
- 6+ years of experience in marketing and business development experience working in a professional services environment is preferred
- Passionate about building a sales and client-focused culture, and a successful track record of involvement in innovative market and business development initiatives
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Marketing or Business, or equivalent experience to successfully complete the essential requirements of the role
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, persuasion, conflict resolution, and relationship management skills
- Bilingual (English and French) an asset
- Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet deadlines
- Solid business acumen; knowledge of corporate transactional and litigation processes and terminology is an asset
- Self-motivated, results-oriented and proactive with a keen eye for detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with external contacts and individuals at all levels of the organization ; ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly and to ensure they are clearly communicated to an audience
- Significant experience managing BD campaigns and initiatives and key accounts
- Ability to consistently meet the needs of internal clients; including flexibility and perseverance
