POSITION SUMMARY:
The Makerspace Coordinator is integral to ROM Learning’s innovation initiatives by overseeing the ROM Makerspace. Working with the Senior Manager of School Engagement, the Coordinator will manage and supervise all aspects of Makerspace, from inventory management to program development. The role involves a blend of operational, supervisory, and strategic responsibilities, aimed at creating an enriching Makerspace experience for diverse audiences. As the lead, the Coordinator will foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the Makerspace aligns with ROM's educational and engagement objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the Makerspace Technician staff team; work in conjunction with the School Engagement administration team to set schedules, conduct regular team check-ins, and establish goals and timelines.
- Create and manage timelines and deliverables to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Makerspace.
- Establish relationships with internal teams like the Gallery Engagement Team and external stakeholders to align Makerspace activities with broader ROM objectives.
- Collaborate with the School Engagement and Learning teams to develop, plan, and activate Makerspace programs tailored for school audiences during weekdays and the general public on weekends.
- Assist in the planning and implementing specialized and technical programs such as Hack the ROM, working closely with other team members.
- Oversee daily operations, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, and spending tracking and forecasting.
- Strong ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with museum staff at all levels and with external stakeholders, including collaborators, developers, artists, and the general public.
- A completed three-year college program in Museum Studies, History, Science, New Media, Design, Visual Arts, or a related field is required.
- The ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines under pressure is essential.
- Proven experience in installing, operating, and maintaining digital fabrication, audio-visual equipment, and artmaking tools in an educational setting.
- Minimum of three (3) years in developing and/or delivering educational content.
- Exceptional attention to detail, coupled with excellent planning and organizational skills.
- At least one (1) year of hands-on experience with digital fabrication equipment and maker tools (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters).
- Demonstrable experience engaging with students and educators in a diverse, inclusive learning environment. Experience should include facilitating maker activities emphasizing design thinking, collaborative learning, and problem-based learning.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, including creative storytelling through various media forms like video, text, and graphics.
- Familiarity with Ontario's school curriculum and assessment policies is a vital asset.
- Working proficiency in audio-visual and design software, including but not limited to CAD programs, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, and Final Cut Pro. A working knowledge of coding and web development is highly advantageous.
- Alternatively, significant hands-on experience in designing and delivering maker workshops may be considered an equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of two (2) years in program coordination, involving budgeting, timeline setting, staff supervision, and evaluation.
- A good understanding of copyright, intellectual property issues, information design standards, and information management policies. Familiarity with general museum practices is a plus.
