Program: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)


Position: FASD Coordinator


Duration: Regular, Full Time


Salary positing is on the established grid and is pro-rated to Canopy’s fiscal year, $49,189.88 – 62,240.89

What We Will Ask of You: As a key member of our Behaviour Consultation team, our FASD Coordinator plays an important role. On most days you’ll be working with children/youth with FASD, or suspected FASD, and their families to develop a support plan based on individual strengths and needs, and informed by the child/youth and family’s vision, goals and concerns. Engaging with local Indigenous organizations to determine how to meet the needs of Indigenous children and youth with FASD. At a local system level, working to improve awareness of FASD and supporting local cross-sectoral planning tables (such as Special Needs Strategy Cross-Sectoral Committees) to identify gaps and opportunities for improving supports for FASD.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Act as a Service Planning Coordinator providing Coordinated Service Planning to children/youth who have multiple and complex needs and their families who requires the more intensive support
  • Working with youth, their family and service providers across sectors to plan for a transition from child and youth services to adult services, if required
  • Connecting families/caregivers to relevant services and other community resources to support the inclusion and stability of their children/youth in a family, school and community setting
  • Participating in and coordinating regular capacity building opportunities with children/youth, families, care providers, community partners and school boards
  • Supporting connections to diagnostic supports (as available), and provide information to families as post-diagnosis support
  • Facilitating parent-to-parent connections
  • Enter and maintain service user files in the EMHWare database
  • Perform other administrative tasks as required


Qualifications:


  • Experience working with individuals experiencing trauma and be familiar with counselling techniques*
  • 1-2 years of Case Management experience in developmental services with children, youth and/or adults.
  • Commitment to maximize resources and improve people’s quality of life
  • Developmental Services experience is considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail, well organized with an excellent ability to prioritize, multi-task and take initiative
  • Ability to schedule work hours outside of regular agency hours of 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday is preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • 3-5 years of work experience with vulnerable or at-risk populations including those with FASD and special needs*
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and other stakeholders
  • Compassionate and responsible supporter of people, their families, and community partners
  • Completion of Undergraduate Degree in Social Sciences with a Bachelor of Social Work or a BA/BSc. in Psychology being preferred or have equivalent experience and knowledge
  • Computer proficiency and excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with the child and youth service system*
  • Experience with FASD population, knowledge of relevant community based services is an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and insurance, access to a reliable vehicle and ability to drive in various weather conditions
