Mission

To aid the Technology team in supporting DoctorCare's expansion across Canada's healthcare industry.

Outcomes

DoctorCare is expanding in both the reach of its services geographically, and the breadth of the services offered. You

will assist in DoctorCare managing that expansion through improving internal tooling, supporting our growing team's use of those tools, and expanding the use of our medical billing engine externally.

Within the first 3 months your goals will be to:

Deliver Features Working Alongside our Product Team

We work closely with our product team to bring features to life for the business. At the end of your first quarter you

will be able to design and specify features, estimate their effort and duration, and keep our product team abreast of

your progress.

Aid in Preserving our Code Quality through Code Reviews

All code at DoctorCare is reviewed before being deployed. Your goal will be to become an integral part of our review

process and ensure that our code is well documented, tested, and efficient.

Resolve 50% of New Bugs

A part of maintaining reliable systems is addressing bugs in a timely manner. In your first quarter you will learn to

triage bugs and to use our monitoring tools to investigate them. All with the goal of resolving 50% of the new bugs that appear in the running of our systems.

Within the first 6 months your goals will be to:

Support External Use of Our Medical Billing Engine

DoctorCare has developed a medical billing engine for the province of Ontario that is able to secure payment for doctors at scale. Through use of this engine our small team is able to support hundreds of physicians.

In the first 6 months you will help us to deploy this system for us in Canada's most-used electronic medical record (EMR) software package. We will be building an external API for our automation team and greatly expanding the reach of our engine. Through this you'll have the opportunity to learn how to build a performant, secure, and reliable web service.

Support Users of our Code on our Technology Helpdesk

At DoctorCare we believe that software developers should support the code that they create. We will work to make sure that you are sufficiently capable with the systems we build and maintain to be effective on our internal help desk. Through exposure to the ways our software breaks or causes confusion we become better at creating reliable and easy-to-use tools.

Independently Operate our Infrastructure

At DoctorCare we also believe that software developers should understand how to deploy to and reliably operate their software's infrastructure. You will be trained on how our AWS infrastructure is constructed and learn to monitor our systems using Rollbar and Datadog. Our goal is for you to join our support rotations and aid in keeping our systems available.

Within the first year your goals will be to:

Attain an AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification

DoctorCare's infrastructure runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and so we consider it valuable to understand the tools it provides. Your goal will be to achieve the first level of certification for the platform in your first year with us.

About the Position

Daily work tasks will be a mix between software development (largely in Python) working

to refine product features, fixing bugs, debugging issues, supporting production

needs, and writing unit tests.

In the next 12 months, you will contribute to the development of DoctorCare's

billing platform, providing solutions to the challenging needs of supporting

new operational capabilities and products.

You will be expected to work on operational and infrastructure issues as

much as code, as the technology team supports the entire stack of success from

the ground up to the users.

You will have direct, meaningful coaching on a daily basis to improve your skills

and plenty of opportunity to challenge yourself with complicated design and

technology challenges. You will have the opportunity to learn about various

provincial health care systems while developing technology skills and best practices;

assets that will last throughout a career.

The successful candidate will be smart, show initiative, and be a good learner

while at the same time, humility and openness to ideas is essential to success at

DoctorCare.

While direct experience in web development is not required, knowledge of

the following is considered an asset:

- Object-oriented programming experience

- SQL

- Python/Ruby/JavaScript

- Django/Rails

- TDD or any unit test writing experience

- Refactoring experience
