Intern - Hardware/Electronic Design Engineer

Schneider Electric is looking for an intern in the field of electronic design to join our team. You will work closely with other R&D engineers and be accountable to develop hardware for HVAC products (Room Controllers/Thermostats, Airflow/CO2 sensors, etc.), to ensure adequate performance, quality, and reliability of the product as well as compliance to specific ratings, product specifications, agency, and standards requirements. The ideal candidate for this position has demonstrated interests and competencies in electronic design in R&D and be capable of performing in a highly technical work environment.

What will you do?

• Performs other duties as assigned by Product Design Lead engineer
• Take ownership of hardware development through specification and selection of electrical and electronic components, simulation /modeling, testing and validation, both on bench and in systems
• Ensure cross-functional collaboration (purchasing, manufacturing, quality assurance, etc.) and be involved with new product development process
• Provide support for troubleshooting all system related issues
• Collaborate to elaboration of electronic design in the cross-functional team including Offer Management, Industrialization, Firmware, Software, PCB and Mechanical design
• Support the team in knowledge management and continuous improvement activities
• Develop electrical schematics and supervise PCB layout
• Gain knowledge of HVAC systems and architecture
• Communicate mechanical requirements
• Perform integration of subsystems and subassemblies in conjunction with new design, product improvement, field, production problem/resolution, and life-cycle management
• Provide support to test engineers for product verification

What qualifications will make you successful?

The successful candidate must be a team player who possesses organizational and communication skills and have strong problem-solving abilities in dealing with product development.

• Student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines from an accredited university
• A minimum of one internship in a R&D environment for board-level electronic design
• For design schematics entry and PCB-level layout supervision: have academic experience with one ECAD tool such as Cadence EDA tools (EDM / Allegro) - preferred, or Altium
• Familiarity with elaboration of analog/digital/power electronic and embedded microcontrollers
• Availability to work on-site (3-day a week) in Montreal-based R&D site

Assets

• Experience with PCB preliminary placement
• Functional knowledge of French and English to facilitate collaboration with our teams, clients and stakeholders at the provincial and international levels
