Job Description
At Northland, we’re enablers of change, united by our journey to transform the energy sector into the foundation for a sustainable future.
Since our inception, we’ve been early movers in the energy industry, adopting new initiatives that pave the way for communities across the globe and helping forge their path towards a carbon-neutral landscape.
We’re a different kind of independent power producer. As developers, owners and operators who are at the forefront of the energy transition, we’re uniquely positioned to leave a lasting impact in the regions where we operate. We’ve expanded our business across Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia to become a global leader, all by bringing together industry experts to find solutions with an entrepreneurial mindset.
While our work powers communities across the globe, Northland is powered by our people.
What You’ll Do
As an Interconnection Manager for our US and Canada Development team, you will ensure the establishment of an overarching strategy with the goal of achieving the timely grid connection of NPI’s pipeline of projects according to the requirements for wind, solar, and energy storage projects. As a crucial member of the team, you will also ensure key external stakeholder relationships are managed appropriately, including active engagement with the ISOs/RTOs, local TOs, and any other regulatory body relevant to the grid connection and transmission assets.
Some regional travel for meetings with utilities, ISOs, and Northland’s development team will be required.

  • Represent Northland in relevant technical industry working groups.
  • Provide oversight/supervision of the management of all external contracts when required.
  • Provide project management for the entire interconnection process from initial siting considerations through to energization.
  • Lead the grid connection activities and ensure the timely delivery of information required.
  • Overall accountability for the delivery of the grid connection package, including the grid connection agreement and grid code compliance, as well as the interaction with the ISO and local TO.
  • Maintain effective and systematic planning and control of project activities regarding grid connection and grid code compliance. Ensuring control of the budget, deadlines, and quality aspect, as well as assessment of contractors/subcontractors involved in the project; Produce monthly reports as necessary during the course of the project.
  • Monitor development of grid connection requirements as well as potential grid connection points in areas of interest for NPI; engaged in identifying new greenfield opportunities
  • Develop Capex and Opex budgets for the grid connection package in support of the overall project.
Who You Are

  • Credible: You have proven negotiation skills that enable you to establish connections quickly. You possess the ability and track record of negotiating the technical and commercial aspects of the interconnection agreements with the ISO/RTOs.
  • Collaborative: You are committed to our shared success above any individual achievements. You welcome the opportunity to learn from and share with other teams, countries, and regions.
  • Process and project management oriented: You are organized and thorough in providing structure to projects and experienced in assessing project needs and grid connection requirements and conditions.
