Maintains power transmission cables for and associated equipment in a state of good repair and in efficient operating condition, by inspecting, testing, adjusting, modifying, repairing and cleaning. Installs and assembles components of power cable systems.

Maintains communication and control cables, aerial or underground, and associated equipment in a state of good repair, and in efficient operating condition by inspecting, testing, adjusting, modifying, repairing and cleaning.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of Grade 12, as well as trade certification as an Electrician (Construction) 309A preferred but not required, or equivalent.

Experience Required

• Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and pertinent Regulations
• Experience performing regular emergency call-out and on-call duties
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills; a good work ethic with a positive approach to work and coworkers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
• A level of physical fitness essential to do the work including the ability to climb and work confidently at heights; and the willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
• Working knowledge of the Electrical Utility Safety Rules and industry safe work practices
• Valid Ontario Drivers’ License, with an excellent driving record and a clean abstract
• Understands operating principles of all H.V. cables including gas and oil systems.
• Knowledge of PLC and HMI automation ( new pumping plants )
• Has a good working knowledge of the purpose, use and method of installation of cables, together with a knowledge of the operation of mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of Hi Pot and Partial Discharge cable testing for MV cables up to 44KV.
• Demonstrated knowledge of electromechanical systems, troubleshooting and wiring methods for 3 phase, 208 volt systems, controls and applicable Ontario Electrical Safety Code (older pumping plants)
• Demonstrated knowledge of the laws of electricity, magnetism and mechanics and understands the principles of joining and insulating electrical and communication conductors.
• Familiarity working from blueprints, specifications, and oral instructions.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Familiar with the properties and applications of common metals, conductors, gases, insulations, lubricants and plastics, related to cables.
• Demonstrated experience in the safe operation of all equipment and vehicles related to electrical utility work
• Demonstrated knowledge of rigging, scaffolding and climbing.
