Design Engineer – Cable Containment

The Opportunity:
WSP is seeking Design Engineers to join our Rail & Transit Team in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver. You will work collaboratively with a team of Engineers and Specialists to build detailed design and drawing packages with a strong focus on Cable Containment Design for various railway and transit projects. As a member of the Rail & Transit team, you will be given opportunities to apply your education and experience on large, complex projects. You will be challenged to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. You will gain knowledge through mentorship and skills development as you fast-track your professional development to become a strong Rail Specialist

A day in the life:

• Develop pipe networks, pipe libraries, custom structures by using Civil 3D
• Utilizing data shortcuts and external reference tools in Civil 3D
• Plan, Profile and Section styling by using Civil 3D to create required surface
• Perform field inspection and investigation work in a railway operating environment;
• Layering standards
• Coordinate with other design disciplines for clash and conflict resolution
• Prepare construction technical specifications for electrical cable/conduit/duct bank infrastructure;
• Create required surfaces, alignments, corridors and pipe networks, create sheets, final drawings and plotting
• CAD responsibilities:
• Electrical and Civil design of underground electrical cable/conduit/duct bank infrastructure using, Civil 3D software and engineering design tools
• Develop detailed 2D and 3D design drawings for construction

What You'll Bring To WSP ...

• Experience in underground infrastructures design like storm water, sanitary sewer, ductbank design is required.;
• Roadway utility design knowledge, municipal, mining, power or heavy civil design experience in oil and gas projects also acceptable, railway preferred;
• 3+ years of relevant experience (Intermediate);
• High proficiency in Civil 3D is a must; other 3D design software & BIM modelling skills a plus;
• P.Eng. or registered as an EIT is required;
• Railway Systems, Communication and Signaling knowledge a plus;
• Underground utility experience;
• Familiarity with CSA 22.1 and 22.3 No.7 a plus.
• Transit railway experience a plus;
• Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineer;
• Background in outside plant design, a plus;
