FLSmidth Ltd. (FLS) is looking for a Senior Analytical Design Engineer to add to our design team developing products and technologies for mine shaft systems. Located in Central Ontario, we are the Underground Mining Division of a market-leading supplier of engineering, equipment and service solutions to customers in the global mining industries. The Position

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five to ten years’ experience in design of heavy-duty steel and aluminum equipment and structures, preferably in relation to the underground mining industry. All applicants will be considered if they have the ambition and relevant education to obtain their professional designation (P.Eng license).

The FLS Orillia design department is comprised of individuals with strong skills in static and dynamic stress analysis, mechanics of materials, SolidWorks modelling skills, experience with large steel and aluminum-welded and bolted fabrications, and overall design creativity. Ideally, the successful candidate will have many of these skills, but more importantly, they should be ambitious and motivated to learn these skills and advance themselves. The individual should be driven by a passion for mechanical design work and be able to account for every design constraint. FLS has a variety of leading-edge tools and software available for the design team, this includes, but is not limited to; Solidworks, Rocky (DEM), MathCAD, and the Ansys suite. Familiarity with underground mining operations and the mining industry are important factors. Knowledge of CSA W59, CSA S16-1 and CSA S157 is an asset. Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic design is also an asset.

• Collaborate with team to promote growth and advancement within the team
• Maintain strong communication with other designers/team mates as well as other departments
• Perform calculations confidently and responsibly in a manner that can be communicated and understood by other technical staff
• Support their designs through planning and manufacturing, including proper documentation and management of any as-built changes
• Certify and stamp applicable designs or products
• Follow and support the safety and quality mandates of FLSmidth.
