Junior Mechanical Engineer - EIT


LOCATION: Thunder Bay, ON


STUATUS: Full Time

Our mining and heavy industrial-focused group in Thunder Bay, ON is experiencing continued growth and we are searching for a junior Mechanical EIT to join our team. We specialize in small to mid-sized projects for clients across Canada. The scope of our projects range from studies to full EPCM in mining or related industries.


Our Mechanical EITs work on projects within our Thunder Bay team, as well as help with assignments from our other Canadian offices. These positions report directly to the Mechanical Staff Manager.


Responsibilities


  • General mechanical machine design and platework
  • Fluid/slurry pumping and piping designs
  • Development and integration of 3D scans and project models
  • HVAC and plumbing
  • Procurement Support
  • Solid and bulk material handling, conveying, crushing, dust collection, etc.
  • Industrial Ventilation
  • Fuel storage and distribution – Liquid and Gaseous Fuels such as Diesel or Propane
  • Development of Capital Cost Estimates
  • Coordination with other disciplines and project team members
  • Industrial process improvements, layouts and equipment integration
  • Development/input to Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) development


Qualifications


  • Current registration as and Engineering Intern (EIT) with Professional Engineers of Ontario, or eligibility for registration
  • No minimum related engineering work experience is required for an entry level position, however is considered an asset. Typically a maximum of approximately 4 years’ experience applies to Junior Engineering level positions
  • Graduate from a CEAB accredited program in a mechanical engineering field


Software And Systems


  • Working knowledge of 3D and 2D CAD software and related workflows for products similar to AutoCAD, CADWorx, Plant 3D, Revit, etc. is considered an asset
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, or similar productivity/collaborative and planning software
  • Additional software experience including FEA, hydraulic, and energy modeling software, SolidWorks, Inventor, Caesar, AFT Fathom, Belt Stat, HAP, etc. are considered an asset


Additional Information


  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in typical industry weather conditions
  • Work is normally performed in a typical engineering office environment. Occasional short site assignments and travel to regional Tetra Tech offices in Canada may be required, however, when on these assignments, junior employees are typically accompanied by more senior staff
  • A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. A copy of a valid work permit may be required
  • If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some Tetra Tech positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law
  • Current working environment: In-office, however hybrid working arrangements can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis (in-office and work-from-home)
  • Must be able to adhere to our office’s vaccination and COVID-19 policies. We will be confirming your eligibility to comply with these requirements
  • Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing and background checks may be required for our client worksites
