Johnston Builders Ltd. is seeking an individual for a full-time position as HEALTH, SAFETY, & QUALITY COORDINATOR, based out of their St. Albert office and travelling to the Whitehorse office within Johnston Builders’ diverse portfolio across Western Canada.

JBL specializes in a number of construction sectors that includes urban retail complexes, light industrial, hotels, medical facilities, educational institutions, community centres, adaptive re-use and restoration, and sustainable construction projects.

The Health, Safety, & Quality Coordinator is a dual role where the incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of Johnston Builders’ health and safety compliance and will also assist in the management and compliance of Johnston Builders’ internal quality standards. Additionally, the incumbent will implement company initiatives, training, process improvement, and auditing.
Responsibilities include:
SAFETY (75%):
·Lead in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s safety program in conjunction with all regulatory bodies.
·Make recommendations and develop plans that will contribute to a safe working environment for our employees.
·Create and implement safety plans while ensuring they are followed daily.
·Conduct regular onsite safety walks, audits, and inspections.
·Responsible for planning, scheduling, and completion of internal and external audits and consolidating audit results, write final reports, and close outstanding audit points.
·Conduct investigations that arise from accidents, incidents, and near misses.
·Lead and participate in Health and Safety Committee meetings.
·Manage WCB claims and return-to-work programs proactively, working closely with the employees, their manager/supervisor, and the insurance organization to ensure the employee’s safety and health and protect the Company’s interests.
·Mentor, guide, teach, and coach supervisors on health and safety requirements, responsibilities, and how to fulfil them.
·Maintain Health and Safety, bulletin boards.
·Arrange training for employees based on requirement and need.
·Collaborate with management to establish, monitor, and share key performance indicators and relevant statistics which can be used to identify trends.
QUALITY (25%):
·Assist management in developing and conducting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) initiatives.
·Works with co-workers to create and keep up-to-date QA/QC documents.
·Make recommendations on how to improve these QA/QC guidelines.
·Conduct quality training sessions and workshops when required.
·Maintain and analyze data and create quality dashboards for management.
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
- An understanding of the commercial and light industrial construction.
- Competent and knowledgeable in Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and other regulatory requirements in a construction setting. HSA, NCSO or equivalent is mandatory to be qualified.
- Very effective organizational and time management skills.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- Preference for familiarity with SiteDocs and Procore.
- Organized and able to multi-task to meet scheduled and unexpected deadlines.
- Have a positive attitude, excellent and solid interpersonal skills.
- Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Competency to operate software including Adobe Acrobat Pro andOffice 365 (MS Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email at a proficient level).
- Proven attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Knowledgeable in the principles of safety and workers' compensation along with pertinent federal, provincial/territorial, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Experience in Health and Safety regulations/issues/committees.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in the construction industry.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Compensation and benefits:
- Company contributed RRSP matching employee input up to 5%.

- The hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 44 hours per week. The office is open from 8am to 5pm (Monday to Friday).
