Job Description

Our client, an established custom equipment manufacturer in Mississauga, has an immediate job opening for a General Manager to join their team on a permanent, full-time basis. In this role you will be responsible for providing leadership of the company by working closely with the President and Vice-President to implement and oversee long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. The General Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations, guiding employees and managers towards the company’s goals and objectives, ensuring practices are in line with the company’s vision.


Responsibilities:


Operations:

  • Represents the organization and its values with customers, vendors, government and regulatory bodies, other stakeholders, and the public in general.
  • Supports Sales team to ensure customers requirements and expectations are met.
  • Reviews KPI’s and other performance data to measure productivity and determine areas where improvement is required.
  • Responsible for Health and Safety of all personnel.
  • Together with the Management Team, ensures that all employees comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Provides leadership to ensure that company mission, values and guiding principles are followed and implemented.
  • Leads the management team, providing on-going coaching and mentoring to ensure success and effectiveness in dealing with business and operational challenges. Monitors and measures performance.
  • Develops and manages realistic operating, capital, and long-term plans that reduce cost and increase productivity, profitability, and cash flow based on Ownership business goals and objectives.
  • Oversees all aspects of operations, including engineering and design, production, procurement, and scheduling, to ensure that production and delivery deadlines are met.
  • Oversees the recruitment and development of the Management Team to ensure the company maintains a strong succession plan.
  • Acts as a point of escalation and supports Management Team with personnel matters within their department.
  • Manage the budget and initiate and fund CAPEX and Continuous Improvement projects to increase efficiency.
  • Develops and delivers professional presentations when necessary.


Business Management and Strategy:

  • Establishes and implements departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with Ownership, Management and staff members as necessary.
  • Fosters a success-oriented accountable environment within the organization.
  • Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of growth strategies and processes.
  • Gathers knowledge of the industry, equipment manufactured, standards and trends, competitive strategies, and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborates with the Management Team to develop and implement plans to achieve the organization’s growth objectives.


Planning:

  • Leads all departments with a business development and relationship focus.
  • Provides the vision and leadership to ensure the company’s financial health while achieving long-term goals and targets.
  • Maintain an effective scheduling process for all tasks and activities and takes the necessary steps to ensure the goals and targets set in the schedules are achieved with positive results.
  • Provides leadership in facilitating the development of long range and annual plans, execution, evaluation, and reporting of progress on plans.


Corporate Governance and Disclosure:

  • Oversees the development, implementation, and compliance of key corporate policies, including corporate governance, risk management, financial reporting as well as applicable legal, regulatory and industry standards and requirements.
  • Assists the Accounting department to ensure appropriate and timely disclosure of accurate material information.
  • Works with Ownership to establish and maintain company disclosure procedures and internal controls over financial reporting for certification of publicly disclosed reports and information, when needed.


Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Hands on experience with management and leadership principles
  • Good understanding of Lean, Continuous Improvement, Problem Solving and Root Cause analysis.
  • 10 years of work experience in a managerial capacity in a manufacturing environment, preferably in custom equipment and/or automation manufacturing.
  • Proven track record with excellent time-management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and use time effectively to set action plans to achieve business targets.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project.
  • A university degree or college diploma in engineering, business administration, or commerce
  • Excellent understanding of finance and accounting principles
  • Ability to identify proper KPI’s to track performance and initiate corrective and preventative measures to improve performance to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills with the ability to perform cost-benefits analysis and select the best course of action.
  • Ability to delegate tasks, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports holding them accountable if those targets are not met.
  • Experience in using ERP systems.
  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and provide feedback to employees, as well as accepting and acting on feedback from employees.
