Responsibilities
Primary Focus:
  • Minimal accounts payable;
  • Journal entries;
  • Monthly tax filings for 5 provinces;
  • Huge focus on reconciliations;
  • Lease renewals for 14 locations across Canada (mostly Ontario).
  • Cash management and cash flow;
  • Lots of time on cash flow and reconciliations;
  • Payroll 2X/month (mostly based in Ontario and 4 other provinces);
From the formal job description:
  • Assist in the preparation and posting of journal entries and perform account analyses;
  • Perform bank reconciliations to General Ledger, investigate and resolve discrepancies and assist with cash management activities as required;
  • Analyze PST exempt and discount transactions, and identify and follow up discrepancies with the Director of Retail Sales and Operations;
  • Prepare monthly tax filings for provincial and federal governments;
Oversee and assist with biweekly payroll processing and perform data verification to ensure wage and commission payment accuracy; act as a backup to Payroll Coordinator in event of absence;
  • Verify the accuracy of calculation, accrual and reconciliation of month-end payroll accruals and related payroll and benefit accounting activities;
  • Process accounts payable invoices, ensuring proper backup, authorization and payment terms adherence.
  • Assist with year-end payroll-related activities and T4 preparation;
Important Details:
  • Peak season is from September to February;
  • Year-end is June;
  • Great Plains is the accounting software and they will train.
Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant full-cycle accounting experience working in a small-to-medium-size entrepreneurial business with a focus on account reconciliations, payroll, and cash accounting; previous retail exposure an asset;
  • Proficient computer skills with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and V-lookups; knowledge of macros is an asset - testing will be done by the employer;
Important Details:
  • Grasp of what payroll looks like in multiple provinces but if you only have hands-on experience with Ontario payroll for legislation, that is acceptable.
