McCain recently announced it will spend $600 million, the largest one-time investment in the company's 65-year history, to double the size of its potato processing capabilities in southern Alberta, Canada.

This project focuses heavily on our commitment to environmental sustainability as the project includes plans for wind turbines & solar panels to provide 100 percent renewable electricity to the facility, as well as the use of renewable biogas generated at the site’s wastewater treatment facility to offset natural gas demand. This investment reconfirms our commitment to manufacturing & agriculture in North America & is reflective of our strong business growth.

This role will provide the right candidate with an exciting opportunity to be a key player in our $600 million investment in southern Alberta. This investment will double the workforce of our Coaldale, Alberta processing facility. McCain’s purpose is to celebrate real connections through delicious, planet-friendly food. Our growers in Alberta have demonstrated real progress toward regenerative agriculture, as we partner with them towards farming more sustainably, protecting long-term potato and food supply.

Job Purpose

The Field Manager is responsible and accountable for all aspects of potato Agricultural operations and supply activities at the local plant site. Through leading regional agricultural practices, the field manager will lead the new growth in the region by expanding strong strategic partnerships with the farming community. Using best-in-class safety principles and talent development, the field manager will also be responsible for building a strong team of agriculture professionals, making the department an inclusive, diverse, and fun workplace. Helping support McCain agriculture’s digital transformation, you will be using and refining data systems to successfully deliver breakthrough initiatives that deliver optimal potato raw material value, operational efficiency, and consumer-winning quality.

Job Responsibilities

• Directly accountable and responsible for the daily supply of raw materials aligned with facility needs.
• Direct management, responsibility, and oversight of the local field department staff.
• Support the Ag Strategy team on McCain’s new variety development program to optimize potato quality and drive regional yield improvements.
• Develop and lead execution of new processes for raw receiving and grading in expanded plant
• Develop a yearly sustainable cost savings plan to maximize the growth agenda for McCain and grower partners.
• Directly accountable and responsible for a sustainable grower base that can meet the company’s short and long-term growth goals.
• Partnering with Potato Supply Management, directly responsible for local market intelligence, risk assessment, and coordination of raw material purchase and utilization
• Develop and manage Fiscal Year department budgets
• Drive grower relationships to support the growth in the supply of potatoes for the Coaldale site
• Develop a yearly potato contracting strategy using an updated economic cost of the production model.
• Support world-class safety programs through the implementation of regional best practices.
• Deliver breakthrough initiatives that optimize raw material value, operational efficiency, and consumer-winning quality

• Execute raw supply expansion plans with the local agriculture team and growers
• Deliver on KPIs that align with the regional Agriculture Strategy
• Build strong strategic partnerships with local growers

Key Qualification & Experiences

• Experience developing grower partners in a growing market
• Negotiation and relationship management skills
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant working experience, preferably within agricultural, manufacturing, and/or quality
• Strong commercial awareness and business acumen
• Strong leadership qualities and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to develop and nurture strong cross-functional and departmental relationships
• Bachelor’s degree

Travel

Mostly local within the growing region but an ability to travel as business needs require
