About Rechargeable Battery Materials In Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What You Will Be Doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Communications Manager reporting to the Managing Director. In this role you will be responsible for developing and implementing a communication plan that is aligned with the global Umicore communications strategy, in support of the local and national needs to engage employees, attract talent, and build constructive relationships with local and national stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Contribute in Umicore Group campaigns, initiatives and programmes with delivery support e.g. localize, translate and distribute top-down information.
• Adapt and localize Group global employer branding materials, aligning with local internal stakeholders (MD, HR)
• Build relationships with local and national career influencers, relevant universities and technical schools
• Participate on behalf of Umicore in relevant meetings from the local administration, government, neighbour associations or civil society
• Update and maintain local/national website
• Be the contact person to government officials, civil society and neighbours
• Identify and develop stories for exposure within the wider Umicore community
• Participate in the Umicore global internal communications network and present learnings and best-practices, support collaboration & knowledge-sharing across the Umicore communications community
• Organize opportunities for potential candidates to interact with Umicore through open days, sponsored research, practical exercises and guest lectures
• Organize town hall and employee events with a mix of global and local content, aligning with local stakeholders
• Facilitate interaction between functional departments and government where needed
• Manage company visits of government officials and events (Ground breaking, opening, extensions of plant, …)
• Facilitate speaking opportunities at local and national career fairs, universities and schools
• Participate in the RBM communications organisation to share best practices and align with the RBM business strategy
• Respond to local and national media requests

Who We Are Looking For

• Digitally literate
• Good interpersonal and networking skills
• Outstanding writing skills in English
• + 10 years of communications experience in an industrial and/or commercial environment
• Knowledge of French is highly appreciated
• Self-starter who enjoys being part of an international team
• Able to handle conflicting situation and work under pressure
• Entrepreneurial and creative
• Outstanding communication skills and strong team spirit
• Excellent understanding of local and national stakeholder environment and (social) media landscape
• Understanding and keen interest in sustainability and technology
