Position Overview


Our environmental engineers direct and oversee the environmental management practices of a construction project or district. District Overview


Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. While we serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada, we can collaborate on projects in Western Canada and the United States.

Location


This position is based in the US and requires applicants to be eligible to work in the US or to apply for and obtain a TN visa. US immigration requires proof of Canadian citizenship and to have successfully completed a bachelor of engineering.


Responsibilities


  • Review requirements and prepare bids and estimates for new contracts
  • Perform and supervise field inspections and monitoring (water, quality, underwater noise, etc.)
  • Lead environmental compliance for a project or district Identify, evaluate and minimize the company's environmental risks
  • Coordinate with relevant teams based on their work locations, material needs, quantities and invoices
  • Liaise with clients; provide them with information on design, schedule details, quantities, etc., ensuring they are aware of any unforeseen findings, critical permitting and compliance issues
  • Monitor, forecast and communicate environmental costs at the project level
  • Identify and obtain the necessary permits
  • Maintain project data tracking requirements
  • Develop and deliver environmental protection and awareness training to staff at all levels Act as a technical advisor and lead coordinator for environmental issues
  • Identify, document, communicate and develop corrective measures for environmental incidents Participate in project audits (internal and external)
  • Identify wetlands and environmentally sensitive areas to be protected and fenced off prior to construction activities
  • Prepare the required project and Kiewit reports and the disclosure of environmental risks to project management
  • Liaise with government authorities and participate in field visits with the client and regulatory agencies
  • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and designs to avoid and minimize adverse effects on the natural environment and local communities
  • Develop and update environmental plans


Qualifications


  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Experience in pipeline inspection strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation
  • Bilingual (French and English), preferably
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Over 5 years of professional experience in design and environmental compliance management for large construction projects
  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, engineering or related field
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Qualified environmental professional designation is preferred. Registered Professional Biologist (or equivalent)
  • Autonomy and high motivation to do things right the first time
  • Uncompromising attitude towards safety and integrity
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to get the job done right the first time
