What Would a Typical Day Look Like?

As an Electrical Designer at JMP, you will play a crucial role in contributing to various robotic projects, including case packers, palletizers, and assembly cells. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around developing the electrical design solution while collaborating with the other design groups, selecting and sizing electrical hardware, working with vendors and supply chain to source electrical panels and order materials, completing the electrical design packages and documentation for the projects, and supporting the project during the build and commissioning stages.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expertise and guidance to the engineering team during the early project stages to develop functional specifications and set design direction.
• Foster a workplace atmosphere that is in strong alignment with JMP values and promotes an extraordinary employee experience (EEE) and extraordinary customer experience (ECE).
• Assist the applications and sales teams, when required, in the creation of unique and inventive solutions to enhance their offerings and drive sales.
• Assist with improving the Electrical Design group through CI initiatives and improvements.
• Participate and lead internal and customer design review meetings, while communicating confidence and clarity with the selected direction.
• Generate and verify full electrical design packages, including power distribution, motor control, safety, network, cable routing, panel layouts, HMI layouts, and BOMs.
• Provide technical problem-solving support during the manufacturing, build, and commissioning stages of the project as well as support and training to customers.
• Work collaboratively with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to provide comprehensive and functional automation systems.
• Collaborate on design solutions with cross-functional teams (Mechanical Design, Controls, Build) including safety, components, IO, handshaking, and network communication requirements.
• Ensure solutions meet all electrical standards, compliances, and internal JMP best practices.
• Adhere to labor and material budgets and scheduled delivery dates.
• Responsible for the electrical design of custom automation, robotic, AGV/AMR solutions using ePLAN and/or AutoCAD where necessary.
• Specify electrical components and collaborate with vendors to meet project requirements.

Note: Given the client-focused nature of the work, employees may be required to work over weekends or outside of standard business hours as needed

What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?

• Comfortable with managing multiple competing project priorities in parallel with a proven track record of delivering successful projects on time, on budget, and with customer satisfaction.
• Working knowledge of best practices for industrial electrical panel designs, electrical codes and design calculations.
• Familiarity with Allen Bradley controls hardware, local electrical codes, and drafting conventions
• Diligent attention to detail and the ability to think through unique and potentially abstract project constraints is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team and interacting with diverse customers.
• A passion for continuous learning and growth in the field of industrial automation.
• 3+ years of experience in automation system design, and electrical control panel design.
• Focus on results through effective component selection while driving internal standards
• Experience with incorporating industrial robotics, PLC’s, HMI, Networks, sensors, vision, etc.
• Eager to support a mixture of electrical design in-office and troubleshooting on the shop floor
• A post-secondary technology diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology.
• Working knowledge of plan and AutoCAD
