Electrical Engineer Jobs

WSP’s Property and Buildings M&E Team is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical team, located in our St. Catharines or Hamilton office. Reporting to Electrical Group Manager, the Electrical Engineer will play an integral role in the delivery and execution of complex, challenging and innovative projects. From a technical perspective, the Electrical Engineer will be an established technical resource, mentoring and guiding junior engineers and EITs in the production of engineering drawings and design. In addition, the Electrical Engineer will provide input in client and stakeholder meetings, representing and championing the WSP brand and mission objectives under direct supervision of senior engineers or discipline lead. This is an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer looking to work with autonomy on some of Canada's most future-forward engineering projects. The successful candidate should be familiar with a variety of municipal, institutional, institutional, healthcare and commercial building projects. The individual will be responsible to prepare calculation, conceptual and detailed designs, technical specifications, installation details, permit / tender / post-tender services on various projects, and perform contract administration (CA) services to review shop drawings, RFI’s, etc.?

A day in the life:

• Other duties as assigned/required.
• Complete understanding of Electrical Engineering requirements for Building and Site design;
• Perform individually and as a team member within the electrical discipline;
• Take ownership of small size projects as a project manager and design engineer throughout the project life cycle
• Prepare and review AutoCAD and Revit 3D models for all electrical systems as mentioned above; perform clash detection with Revit 3D for find interdisciplinary 3D model clashes;
• Electrical design of power distribution, fire alarm, grounding, lighting and controls, and emergency generator power for projects.
• Ability to perform interdisciplinary coordination with Lighting, Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Site Services, Signaling, Architectural, Project Management, and Construction Management disciplines per project requirements;
• Some knowledge of project management requirement including: reporting, financials, and resourcing to help with project managers, Senior Engineers, and Electrical Group Manager;

We'd love to hear from you if you have...

• Thorough familiarity with software used for engineering studies - arc flash, load, fault and coordination studies, lighting, grounding, etc. is an asset.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with team members and other disciplines;
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and registered P.Eng. with PEO;
• Extensive understanding of building electrical engineering requirement, knowledge of utility requirements, authorities having jurisdiction, applicable codes and standards such as Ontario Building Code (OBC), CSA, ASHRAE, IEEE, OESC, CEC, NFPA, etc.
• Thorough understanding of project management technical requirement to prepare schedules and resourcing. PMP is a plus;
• Ability to work independently to deliver comprehensive designs and meet the deadlines;
• 7 to 10 years of direct experience with designing electrical systems for commercial and industrial projects including but not limited to: power distribution, grounding, fire alarm, lighting and controls, and life safety systems;
• Detail oriented, Organized, Hard worker, and Team Player attitude;
