Educational Technology Advisor, Eportfolio

Position Summary

  Our Role Involves

The Educational Technology Department (EdTech) supports Langara’s faculty and instructional staff in instructional design, media production, and content management. EdTech facilitates the adoption and use of innovative, practical technologies for teaching and learning.

• Acting as a resource to the Langara academic community to enhance instructional practices and deepen student learning.
• Contributing expertise to the adoption and application of technology in post-secondary education.
• Informing our practice by engaging in active research.

Working closely with other Advisors and reporting to the Chair, Educational Technology, the Advisor ePortfolio Specialist supports the implementation of experiential learning through the integration of ePortfolios.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides support and training to faculty in core services, including but not limited to, Brightspace, MediaSpace, PebblePad, iWeb (Wordpress) and Turnitin.
• Provides consultation for the integration of PebblePad into courses based on an active, collaborative, and authentic instructional approach for all delivery methods (face-to-face, hybrid, distance learning).
• Communicates, collaborates on, and promotes ePortfolio practices and innovations both internally and externally.
• Facilitates ePortfolio training and provides ongoing support, including assisting faculty members and departments’ adoption of e-portfolio platforms and practices.
• Designs and delivers training workshops (in various formats – F2F, one-to-one, one-to-many, hybrid), presentations, and information sharing sessions related to the use of e-portfolios and other core services, including but not limited to, Brightspace, MediaSpace, iWeb (Wordpress) and Turnitin.
• Creates, updates, and maintains portfolio templates used by learners within the e-Portfolio system.
• Creates customized training and curriculum materials for specific departments or groups.

Required Qualifications And Experience

• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training in multiple modalities.
• Expertise with media creation and editing applications.
• Master’s degree in a related area
• Demonstrated experience using e-portfolios in teaching and learning or supporting the use of e-portfolios in teaching and learning.
• Proven ability to lead innovative change in a complex environment to implement large projects.
• Proficiency in the use of a learning management system, preferably Brightspace by D2L.
• Experience in the design and development of online course materials for educational use at a postsecondary level.
• 5+ years of post-secondary teaching experience
• Expertise with digital pedagogy.

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Experience teaching with and/or supporting ePortfolio pedagogy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of faculty.
• Experience with a range of desktop and mobile operating systems and with software applications to create training and/or instructional content.
• Project management experience.
• Proven time management skills in a deliverables focused position.
• Familiarity with Office 365
• Ability to work effectively in a team.

Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
