SCOPE OF POSITION
The Director of Operations is responsible for the development and execution of annual objectives, planning, and financial budgets for the manufacturing network. They are accountable for delivering cross-functional objectives and programs in the manufacturing network, working collaboratively with senior leaders in Health and Safety, RAQA, HR, Supply Chain, Engineering, Sales and Marketing and Finance. The Director of Manufacturing will work closely with the VP of Manufacturing in developing and implementing the CHS Manufacturing System, a standardized way of operating with a focus on employee engagement and continuous improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Health and Safety
- Develops a culture of Safety First, where safety is top of mind and continuous improvement in safety is the expectation.
- Ensures all plants are compliant to regulatory and CHS safety policies and procedures.
- Acts as a role model for safe behavior and compliance.
Quality Assurance and Control
- Ensures all plants are compliant to regulatory and CHS quality policies and procedures.
- Works with Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance to identify and improve process capability of production equipment.
- High sense of urgency to protect the customer from any non-conforming product through containment, root cause and improvement activities.
- Develops a culture of “Right the First Time”, reducing the need for inspection and correction of non-conforming product.
People
- Develops strong competencies within manufacturing by ensuring employee training is up to date on operating procedures, work instructions, documentation etc.
- Builds organizational capability by hiring and developing strong leaders and team players.
- Promotes positive employee relations and lives our CHS Values; ensuring all employees are treated fairly and consistently and have equal opportunity.
- Ensures a positive team environment through collaboration, openness and effective communication.
Operations Leadership
- Supports commercial teams with costing and implementing new products.
- As a member of the operations leadership team, fosters a management style that supports excellence, personal growth and mutual respect through communications and practices that promote employee involvement and commitment at all levels.
- Works closely with Engineering and Finance to ensure BOMs are accurate and updated to reflect operational improvements.
- Actively engaged in the S&OP process, working with Supply Chain and Engineering leaders in short term and long range capacity planning.
- Responsible for achieving targeted improvements in Safety, Quality, Customer Service, People Development, and Operational and Financial performance.
- Enables their team’s success through the use of practical and effective tools and processes, sustaining performance improvement through the implementation of strong operating disciplines.
- Manages, supports, and coaches leaders within Production and Maintenance across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Increases operational capacity and efficiency through the execution of capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Is externally focused, benchmarking plant processes, equipment and performance with industry standards and best practices to identify areas for operational improvement.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a manufacturing operations leader in a technical or regulated industry. Working experience in medical device manufacturing is an asset.
- Cross-functional leadership experience in Engineering or Supply Chain is an asset.
- Experience executing large scale capital projects such as a facility start-up or installation of automated production lines is preferred.
- Experience working in an environment with strong Maintenance practices is preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and while juggling multiple priorities.
- Post-Secondary Degree in a technical or business field.
WORK EVIRONMENT
- Regular travel is expected to all sites, in particular for those in the GTA.
- Production facilities are clean, well-lit, temperature controlled and except in isolated areas do not require the use of hearing protection.
- Active management and coaching of site leadership teams requires high presence in plants with regular engagement on the production floor.
- Office is located in our Oakville manufacturing facility, just minutes from our corporate headquarters.
