Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Development and Capital Campaign, the Development Officer is responsible for a pipeline of prospects - developing a fundraising strategy for each potential donor that sees the relationship move from identification through to stewardship.This position develops, evaluates and manages a portfolio of prospects/donors whose interests align with University and Collegiate priorities. The incumbent regularly engages with and consults with staff, faculty, administrators, and externally with alumni, donors, businesses, corporations, associations, foundations, and service and industry organizations.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and fundraising experience.
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years related experience in professional fundraising. Post-secondary fundraising, major gifts and corporate/foundation relations, and major campaign experience are an asset.
Primary Responsibilities
• Manage a portfolio of prospects and donors. Formulate, recommend and implement cultivation, engagement, solicitation and stewardship strategies to secure gifts for the portfolio.
• Develop an in depth understanding of the University’s key fundraising priorities and promote these priorities effectively to prospects.
• Through personal visits, identify and qualify individuals to determine their capacity, inclination and interests in providing support to the University. Evaluate and recommend appropriate next steps for newly qualified potential donors and current donors.
• Generate written materials associated with the fundraising process, such as proposals, stewardship reports and general correspondence.
• Work in close collaboration with the entire Foundation team.
• Participate in the development and implementation of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the unit by keeping up to date with new trends in the field of fundraising.
Skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write about and speak to fundraising cases for support and to help better develop strategic advancement plans.
• Ability to identify and leverage new opportunities for development.
• Ability to build relationships, negotiate and influence, and manage change in a complex environment.
• Excellent time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to exercise judgment, discretion, problem solving skills and initiative complemented by good analytical skills.
• Ability to listen actively in order to obtain and relay information accurately. • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
