Design Project Manager - Civil(Water/Waste Water Construction)

As the Design Project Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the execution/project team has been brought up to speed by being the bridge between the pursuit team and the execution/project team. Your passionate spirit for your craft will be evident in the efforts you put forth and your team focus will help in coordinating the work that you deliver.

Other functions you can expect in this role

• Communicating the design and construction plan to the execution team;
• Presenting and co-presenting presentations to clients on technical aspects of the design;
• Manage the design consultants to ensure an effective and timely design that meets the construction budget and schedule requirements for the project;
• Building relationships with potential international partners;
• Assist in disseminating information on new technologies to the Maple team.
• Attending industry events making presentations as required.
• Leading the divisional resources in developing the estimate for the pursuit;
• Being involved at the RFP stage to provide technical support;
• Make informed recommendations to Director, Pre-Construction and the VP Major Projects as to new technologies and new building materials with potential for future projects;
• Being embedded in the execution team by finalizing the design;
• Coordinating and managing value engineering sessions internally and externally to find value added scope and maximize savings to project budgets;
• Disseminating information from the project pursuit to the project team;
• Being in the loop on all civil and infrastructure project pusuits;
• Participating in trainings and conferences to explore new technologies and building materials;
• Assisting the execution team develop a commissioning plan and being a resource during commissioning as sponsored.
• Assist in selecting design and technical firms for projects;
• Develop relationships with design and technical firms;
• Ensure the continued advancement of new building materials and technologies for Maple by
• Assist the Pursuit/Development team by
• Being embedded in the pursuit team to assist in developing winning strategies, plans and schedules;
• Identify concerns with the design for constructability, cost and schedule;
• Assist the Execution/Project Team by
• Being available to the execution team in an advisory capacity during construction;
• Providing technical expertise to the pursuit team;
• Witnessing and/or conducting testing of new technologies to determine suitability for partnering with Maple;

Miscellaneous

• Participate in marketing and promotional campaigns.
• Perform all other related duties as requested.

• Maintaining awareness of statutory requirements, new techniques, methods, materials, etc.

Qualifications/ Skills

• The ability to use/learn industry specific software programs such as Timberline, and MS Project.
• Experience in Water/ Waste water construction.
• University degree in Engineering, and or Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma, or a combination of education and industry experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• At least 10 years experience as a Project Manager in the construction industry.
• Professional Designation preferred - P.Eng and/or Gold Seal /LEED certification
• Knowledge of Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (ICI) Buildings, and civil infrastructure construction.
• Proficient MS Office and Windows-based computer applications skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, etc.).

The Design Project Manager will have proven leadership abilities and work in a hands-on fast paced, deadline driven environment. The successful candidate will have 10 years of experience as a Project Manager in the construction industry, with a specific focus on ICI or civil Design Build projects. Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment construction is an asset.
