Arcadis Canada is seeking a Water Wastewater Engineer with experience in consulting for municipal and industrial wastewater facilities to join our Resilience Team in Richmond Hill, Ontario. We offer a flexible hybrid work model with a balance between remote and in-office work.

Role description:
The Wastewater Engineer will provide the highest quality of service to our municipal and industrial clients by possessing exceptional technical and managerial skills in the design, construction and operations of wastewater facilities and related infrastructure. The Wastewater Engineer will develop design documents as part of a team of skilled engineers for various and WWTP projects, perform fieldwork activities such as site visits, construction inspection, sampling, water quality analyses, asset inventory, flow monitoring set-up and monitoring, and plant operations information, process troubleshooting and optimization. This role will work closely with our Canadian and North American teams to leverage our technical resources and knowledge for servicing clients while also helping to expand the water business line.
Experience in the design and operation of different wastewater systems is preferred. Knowledge of membrane bioreactors technology, advancement within integrated fixed-film/activated sludge (IFAS) and other wastewater treatment methods as well as biosolid treatment, chemical conditioning, and solid thickening is also preferred. Training and mentorship will be provided.
Role accountabilities:
  • Assist with selection and design of construction alternatives and/or rehabilitation techniques
  • Develop understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements for a variety of jurisdictions
  • Preparation of reports, presentations, and other audio-visual materials, and participate in client meetings
  • Assist with development of permitting exhibits and permit applications
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing
  • Duties may also include field activities such as field reconnaissance, site investigations and/or site observation activities
  • Assist with studies and alternative analysis
  • Manage the successful and timely delivery of challenging and multi-disciplinary projects
  • Coordinate and provide support for our existing work and future opportunities in the wastewater
  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables
  • Exercise judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or similar field with specialization in wastewater preferred.
  • EIT or Professional Engineering in Ontario
  • Experience with use of drafting software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation)
  • 2+ years of experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Inclination for involvement in design and construction services in buried infrastructure or conveyance projects.
  • Master's degree in civil engineering, water engineering, or similar field
  • Experience with first nations water and wastewater programs is an asset
