Job Description

The Environment Agency works to create better places for people, wildlife, and supports sustainable development.

This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in entering a career that can make a real difference to the local environment. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to take on this critical role in addressing the nutrient challenges in some of our most highly protected environments.

You will work across the EA and with our colleagues at Natural England to develop and implement these plans and in doing so you will:

  • Secure multi agency agreement and drive identified measures through to implementation
  • Bring together monitoring data, modelling, and other evidence on nutrient challenges in The Broads and Ouse Washes
  • Work with internal teams and external partners to refine the evidence base and identify measures that will result in positive environmental change
  • Engage with other relevant catchment strategies, plans, and projects to integrate and address nutrient challenges, and in doing so develop a sustainable future for our environment

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

You'll be based at an EA office which will be agreed with the successful candidates. However, we are adopting new ways of working which allows some flexibility to work from home.

The team

The Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) team is predominantly a water planning team with specialists in water quality, water resources and river basin planning. Working with area operational teams and national colleagues, we commission, analyse and share data, and produce the environmental plans that inform and drive East Anglia’s area priorities.

Our team of technical advisors are at the heart of environmental decision making, facilitating integrated actions to solve complex problems.

Experience/skills Required

Essential:

  • Water quality knowledge and experience
  • A full UK driving licence

It would be helpful if you had:

  • Good organisational skills/discipline and the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work, meeting relevant standards and timescales
  • Self-motivated and work under your own initiative and as part of larger, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Effective influencing skills and be able to persuade internal teams and external partners to work collaboratively when developing and delivering environmental outcomes.
  • Diplomatic, sensitive and demonstrate political awareness when dealing with customers, stakeholders, and communities.
  • Excellent communicator, experienced at making sense of technical information and presenting it in a clear and logical way for audiences ranging from external partners to senior colleagues.
  • Experience of applying your analytical skills to evidence to explore problems and make proportionate, evidence-based proposals.
