POSITION SUMMARY:

You believe a perfectly crafted headline is worth a thousand pictures. The misuse of semicolons and em dashes make your blood boil. You often spend hours deliberating on the best caption to pair with your Instagram vacay photos. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt if you happen to be a hockey fan. If this sounds like you, then this is your chance to help shape the creative for one of the most iconic and well-known brands in Canada.

As the Copywriter, you will be responsible for crafting copy for Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) brands (i.e.., Vancouver Canucks, Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver Warriors, and Rogers Arena) across integrated media such as video, social, emails, OOH, in-arena, and more.

Reporting to the Creative Director, the successful candidate will collaborate with designers, producers, and strategists to create a myriad of deliverables. These deliverables will serve many business functions, including Marketing, Ticketing, Corporate Partnerships, Fan Experience, Community, and more.

This role will focus on:

• Playing a key role in developing CSE’s voice and how it expresses itself across various media
• Collaborating with content team on video scripts for milestone moments and various creative
• Writing creatively evocative headlines and body copy that capture excitement and motivate fans, including email marketing, social posts, presentation decks, and print advertising
• Working closely with membership, sales, and corporate partnerships to craft stories that align with the respective creative brief

YOU HAVE:

• A portfolio that demonstrates effective conceptual thinking and writing
• Experience managing multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment

• At least three years of copywriting experience in advertising or marketing—ad agency or in-house creative preferred
• Excellent attention to detail
• A strong understanding of NHL hockey and professional sports
• Ability to balance creative expression with business needs
• This is an onsite role at our office in downtown Vancouver
• Culturally inclined and digitally savvy with a good understanding of how to authentically apply trends to our brands
• Versatile storyteller with strong editing capabilities and command of grammar
