Coordinator, Health, Safety and Wellness - Toronto, Ontario
Position: Coordinator, Health, Safety and Wellness Location: MaRS Centre, Toronto Department: Human Resources Reports To: Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Wellness Salary: Commensurate with level of experience Hours: 35 hours/week Job Type: Hybrid or On-site Status: Full-time, Temporary (1-year contract with potential for renewal)
The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Coordinator, Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) to work in the HSW Office within the Human Resources (HR) department.
This position is temporary, full-time for one-year with the potential for renewal.

The Responsibilities Include
  • May perform other cross-functional and/or other duties as assigned or requested
  • Research HSW topics and/or conducts hazard assessments/reviews to ensure ongoing compliance and continual improvement/promotion of best practices
  • Works as a safety and wellness role model in compliance with OICR health , safety and wellness policies and programs a s well as safety-related legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act , and Human Pathogens and Toxins Act
  • Administers safety and accessibility training, including compliance monitoring and assist ance with content development of training materials
  • Helps ensure compliance to health , safety and wellness policies and programs by tracking completion of corrective actions arising from inspections and incidents/near misses, follow-up on new items arising (e.g., meeting action items, ad hoc audits , hazards reported by staff) and documenting summaries/ results
  • Supports the development, maintenance, and implementation of OICR Health, Safety and Wellness programs and initiatives , including
  • Coordinates the Health and Safety ticket system and SDS databa se
  • Supports development and maintenance of health and safety documents (e.g., program manuals, guidelines, forms), inventories and tracking spreadsheets
  • Provides coverage to the Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Wellness , when not available
  • Creates health, safety and wellness communications that educate and promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Participates in delivery of wellness-related initiatives, including sustainability/Green Team efforts
  • Supports research safety compliance including participating in lab inspections , consultations and facilitating biosafety permit renewals/amendments
  • Coordinates the work of the Joint Health and Committee and OICR Biosafety Committee , including arranging meetings and organizing inspections
Qualifications:
  • At a minimum, completion of a 3-year college program in Occupational Health and Safety, or related discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry or applied science program) , or equivalent education or work experience
  • P ractical health and safety experience in a research or health care setting would be preferred
  • Excellent writing, organizational, computer literacy and interpersonal skills
