Position summary:
The Coordinator, Activation Services will coordinate and oversee the delivery of comprehensive activation therapy services and the administration of Hospital wide activation programs to patients in accordance with established professional principles and the mission, vision, and values of the Hospital. The position will serve as a clinical resource to staff and ensure activation best practices are identified and implemented. The Coordinator, Activation Services will also take the lead on the development, implementation, and continued execution of new activation programs (departmental and Hospital wide) and quality improvement initiatives and to organize and deliver individual, small and large group programs for patients.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensures the availability and appropriateness of departmental supplies and resources to deliver optimal and safe activation programs (departmental and corporate programs)
- Develops and administers departmental policies and procedures that promote best practices.
- Remains current in best practices relating to activation services and develops and updates knowledge of activation staff to ensure delivery of evidence-based and best practice care.
- Schedules departmental and corporate entertainment required for the delivery of activation services and ensures service contracts are signed and cheque requests are submitted for signature to the Manager, Allied Health
- Performs the daily supervision of activation staff and conducts annual performance evaluations of all activation staff.
- Takes active steps to redistribute activation resources, taking into account caseload and staff shortages/absences, to ensure the efficient operations of the department.
- Organizes and directs staff to provide programs that meet the physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of patients and their overall well-being
- Ensures departmental budget is adhered to and takes active steps to address budget issues throughout the fiscal year.
- Participates in ongoing educational opportunities both internally and externally to maintain clinical competencies and enhance best practices.
- Successfully orients and mentors all new activation staff and ensures all departmental policies and procedures are reviewed with new hires.
- Determines the appropriate allocation of activation staffing for the effective and proper administration of departmental and corporate activation programs.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, database software
- Degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies with therapeutic recreation specialization required.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
- Five (5) years of clinical experience in a Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing Care Hospital or Acute Care Hospital with a minimum of two (2) years in a coordinator or leadership role
- Demonstrated expertise with geriatric, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions
- Professional Membership Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario (TRO) required
- Active involvement in own professional development
