Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Clinical Educator, in collaboration with the Regional Manager, is responsible to lead the development, enhancement and quality improvement of virtual care education that continuously improves and integrates the Virtual Care Services vision and mandate into the practice and culture of the organization while preserving alignment with Quality Systems and organizational strategic direction for excellence in care and service.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Clinical Educator is an innovator, knowledge translator, facilitator and change agent accountable for developing and delivering excellence in clinical virtual education. The scope of practice of the Clinical Educator is broad and complex, working across clinical programs and professions to provide education leadership for the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of virtual care education programs that contribute to the achievement of Island Health goals and objectives. The Clinical Educator assesses virtual care education and care delivery trends that affect the organization, conducts impact analyses and develops evidence based resources to ensure the organization remains current and responsive to larger systems influences.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a related health discipline such as Nursing, Health Information Science, or patient care/clinical related specialty and a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in a health care environment, including extensive experience leading the integration of computer technologies in clinical practice, regional policy and practice development and in establishing integrated clinical/systems environment through clinical change management methodologies.
Skills And Abilities
  • Understanding of medical, nursing and allied health legislation, statutes, regulations, and professional standards of practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of new trends in Virtual Care.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal direct supervision, and has a demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a self-directed manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of partners including technical, clinical and operational staff while exercising professionalism, tact, confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to handle sensitive corporate and personnel information.
  • Knowledge of learning and evaluation models.
  • Ability to coach, facilitate and lead others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Ability to identify virtual care opportunities that promote improved quality clinical care.
  • Change oriented and possesses an attitude of continuous improvement.
  • High degree of proficiency with standard MS Office suite and advanced features of office computer applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
